@Couturexec Here's my Dinky strap, at least a month after the coats of LT and LH. It did soften and darken, but it's still...challenged. I was also a little worried about the 'snap into a dust cloud' possibility.

@coach943 The Sno-Seal stuff sounds great - thanks for that link! I need to go back to reading that thread - it is wonderful, too. Guess I'll be done buying products whenever I'm done buying Coach hehe.

Hope the tagging works. I messed up the multiquote - hard to keep straight how it's done in the app, website, and mobile site.

Here are my results from using Angelus Dry Cleaning Solution and Spot Remover on an ink spot. I was pretty worried after the second application when it looked like it had taken all the color out, but as you can see, it turned out great! I don't think anyone would seep the spot if they didn't know to look for it.

Wow. My anxiety would have been at a 10 at picture #3!
Looks great! I'll check Amazon.

Someone save this beauty! I am not skilled enough to take on the rehab! Can it be bathed? Does the glued on number come off when bathed?

I'm experimenting with a new technique. One of the NYC bags I did a long time ago has a super soft smooth feel to it. I'm thinking that I did this when I first started using Blackrocks and didn't know to wipe it off right away. So now I'm just wiping it off very lightly. Then after a day, I brush it.
Huh. I didn't know you were supposed to wipe it off right away either. I've been rubbing it in, waiting a bit and then buffing it with a brush. I guess I never figured it was enough to wipe off. Interesting, I just did a Handle Backpack this morning. I'll see if any wipes off.

In another rehab forum, someone used Sno Seal to repair cracks on a strap. Sno Seal is a beeswax product. She said she applied it then used a hairdryer to melt it into the leather. I think she then recolored over the top of it with Meltonian. The pictures of the bag after the repair looked amazing.

I bookmarked this post Hermes Vintage Bag Nightmares & Hermes Leather Care from docride on how to get Meltonian colorfast. (I think the ice water is key - I've heard that from someone who as tried docride's process.)

The Sno Seal/Meltonian application might be a way to repair the cracks.
I've done this. If the photo was a large shopper, it was probably mine. Worked great.

Here's my first Bonnie Cashin tote! The listing photo wasn't very good. Can anyone tell me what's going on with the stripes? The leather feels plasticity dry and not supple and soft to touch. Help! IMG_20160821_152341530_HDR.jpeg

Here's what the "stripes" look like up close. What should I do? I am afraid to give her a bath. So I think I only want to condition the leather.

Beautiful color! Those stripes are probably natural markings of the leather. These older bags, especially this style since it is structured, weren't made of really soft leather like you will find in 90s bags. I've washed one of these multiple times and it held up like iron. If you don't want to bathe it, I would probably try to use heat to help the conditioner soak in, either by putting it in the sun or hitting with a hairdryer.

Looks a little like stretch marks! Beautiful! Don't be scared to wash it if it looks dirty, I've washed a couple of this style, and others from the same era in red, no problems. Does look like it's in great shape already though.
