I've mostly been 'practicing' by rehabbing non-Coaches and building a rehab pile, but finally making some headway! Here's a (terribly photographed) Murphy I fixed up for my Mom. I did the usual, plus filled the small holes in the corners with many thin layers of Liquitex tinted with Edge Kote. I also straightened that dent in the strap before I sent it ;) She loves it!

So is there a thread on how to photograph bags well? I'm terrible at it! Seems like there's a thread for everything else in tPF...
It looks great! I have trouble photographing black bags especially. I don't have enough light in my house so I always take them outside. I find a spot in the shade that is well lit. The light should be coming from the front. You don't want to be shooting a picture into the sun.

There are no stains, but because it is new to me, I do want to clean it. I would hate to darken it. Definitely a spring/summer color that I want to use frequently. Do you have any suggestions other than Obenauf's? I have some Coach leather cleaner, that may do the job. I like the fact that it isn't shiny and has a bit of a "vintage-y" look. The rose color is just so beautiful. The Bridgit is lovely in that color.
I would probably use CPR. I probably have conditioned it but I can't remember. I might have even used Blackrocks. The Bridgit came out later than most of the Legacy bags. I'm not sure if it is the same leather. I don't think it is vachetta.

Hello everyone! I haven't had a solid rehab project in ages!! I rescued this stewardess from goodwill. It clearly needs work. One thing I noticed is the piping around the edges seems to be darker than the rest of the leather. Has anyone encountered this? Sorry to not have more pictures. My phone has chosen to not take any more

I've have the darker piping on my Classic Pouch (made in NYC).

I think it happened because of the thinner leather used for the piping. It aged differently, or took the dye differently, or something.

Your Stewardess is beautiful, can't wait to see how it turns out!

Thank you, Cat!! Hopefully going to dunk tomorrow. Your classic looks great!! Hopefully Stew comes out looking that good. I still can't take more pictures.....however, there are black marks where the buckles rested on the strap. The buckles aren't very tarnished, but I assume the marks are some sort of reaction between the two. Any thoughts? I hope it comes out!!

HI all, I know this is a very active thread so I thought I would ask here if you can kindly guide me where to go. I have purchased a Frye Jane Speedy Bag that needs repair. Its piping, so it is not a DIY project. I have not been able to find anything on frye bags or frye repairs on tpf. First, I need to know if there is a general price range to repair worn through piping? The bag is not under warranty, I purchased at an estate sale, so it does not matter if I go to the manufacturer. Unless of course, it is highly advised to only get a bag repair such as this done by a repairer suggested by the manufacturer. What would one pay for such a repair normally? Also, I have another frye Carriage bag, that I would like to date. So, in general... is there a repair thread for other bags for general questions? or a frye info thread that is not coming up in searches for me? thanks for any help!ImageUploadedByPurseForum1458189973.027700.jpgImageUploadedByPurseForum1458190035.174572.jpgImageUploadedByPurseForum1458190049.852665.jpg

I have the same marks on the strap on mine. I've tried a paste of baking soda and vinegar, scrubbing pretty hard with a toothbrush, bathing twice, but they are still there.

I love the two tone! I have a shoulder purse like that.

Has anyone repaired damage like this? I've never used a filler before but I do have leather cement. Will that work as a filler? I also have matte gel medium. If those products won't work what is the best filler?

Hello everyone. I did get the bag with the hole that I posted about earlier. This latest addition to my purse rehab has some major ink marks on the inside. The inside is unlined leather. I remember reading about a product on here that works on ink really well but all I can remember about the name is Soil.... Does anyone know what product I am thinking of? It sounded like Soilell maybe...
I'll post a pic of the interior of the bag. Now this bag will be a challenge! On a positive note, the edging looks like it is in decent shape!
About the Hampton project: All my dye is finally in and the edging is about as good as it is going to get...maybe. Every time that I apply another coat of Dura Edge, I tell myself that it will be the last coat... and every time I go to check it after it dries, I see a place that needs to be touched up and one thing leads to another until I'm doing another complete coat. Does it ever end? :roflmfao:

Wow, that is so beautifully reshaped. Nice work! Was that difficult?

Thank you! I'd say a little fussy but I'm a noob (and recovering perfectionist!), so maybe there's an easier way. I put templates I cut from foam board along the bottom and sides, then stuffed to keep them pressed against the leather. Lots of adjusting to get those positioned just right. Toward the end of drying I clamped the top front corners so the front flap would lay right but the bottom would still be box-like. I also checked it regularly while drying, making little adjustments.

Is there an easier way?

That bag came out great. Congrats!

Thank you!

Thank you! Yesterday's pics on the AT thread came out better using some tips you guys have given me. There were 55mph wind gusts so outside was scary, but will try your tips soon.

SoilLove has been mentioned, but I think for use on fabric, not leather.

That's it! Thank you! It's been bugging me that I couldn't remember the name for about a week now. I've searched threads and gotten off track and searched again for days now. I just remembered someone saying the product worked really well.Too bad it's for fabric only though. I like to use Tuff Stuff on fabric linings. It is phenomenal! If you've never tried it, you should definitely add it to your handbag disaster arsenal. It costs about $3 at Walmart. It's in the automotive department.
Does anyone have a tried and true for getting ink marks off rough leather? I will probably try alcohol but I'm worried about the ink seeping through to the exterior layer. Warnings or suggestions?
