I just acquired a pre-loved Legacy 10328. It's in wonderful condition, no water stains, and not a lot of fading. Because it is pre-loved I would like to freshen it up. I've read the many posts regarding the dyed nature of the vachetta leather of some of the Legacy bags and cleaning it with vinegar. Would any of you suggest a full wipe of the bag (leather and brass) with vinegar and then using some sort of moisturizer and water protectant on it? Also, how do you clean the interior? There aren't any stains, but once again, just want to clean it prior to using it. Any help would be appreciated.
The lining is washable. You can pull it out and wash it with soap and water, but that requires a lot of rinsing and it is hard to keep the leather dry. If it isn't too dirty, I use a mild spray cleaner that doesn't require rinsing. I wouldn't attempt to polish the brass - it usually gets worse on these bags. Coach943's suggestion to treat the exterior with Obenauf's sounds good.

I have several bags from that line. I highly recommend using Obenauf's Heavy Duty LP on it. Rub the Obenauf's into your fingers to let it get warm and then rub it into the bag. I then use a horse hair brush to buff the bag or it can get sticky.

I just finished sprucing up this bag today with a quick coat of Obenauf's as I haven't carried it in a while. The Obenauf's will act as a water protectant. As far as the interior, you can pull out the lining and spot clean. Be careful to not get water on the bag. If it isn't dirty, I wouldn't mess with it.

Thank you so much! I'm going to purchase some Obenauf's. I'll post a pic once I've done the job. Your bag is lovely. I hope mine turns out that well. I got it in rose, so I don't want to ruin the lovely color.

Thanks, whateve! I was reading your advice regarding the vinegar, but I figured that may apply to only water stains. I want to avoid over saturation, so the mild cleaner or spot treatment might be best for the interior. There doesn't seem to be any stains and no smells. I just want to give it a once over.

If it has a silk lining, clean it with Scotchgard or a similar product.

Excellent idea. I have some lying around. That's perfect. Thanks!

My next project. It was expensive but I could not resist helping out this poor girl. She is being authenticated on the dedicated thread.

I have Bridgit in rose. It is a very beautiful color. Obenaufs might darken. I would test it before using it on the entire thing.

Great to know! Hopefully my next dunking goes better than the wallet did! I will go for 15 mins this time.
I've ruined the cardboard bottom of a Vera Bradley before by washing it. I ended up taking out the damaged cardboard and using it as a pattern. I had a frameless picture frame that had fallen and the glass had broken so I just had the backing lying around. I think the frame backing was particle board. I used that and the purse is now sturdier than before. I've also used plastic (I think a child's placemat or one of those flexible cutting boards) as a replacement bottom. It worked better than the cardboard too. I don't know why purse manufacturers use cardboard to begin with.
That's curious about the wrinkle lines? How long did you leave the purse in the water?
Thanks for the info!

I left it in maybe 30 min. Very clever and crafty with your replacement bottom fix!

Beautiful, even before you've done anything! I have a twin that was recently authenticated, so please do share how it turns out. Mine is very dry and pale but hoping it turns out a similar color as yours and Catbird's because they're fab.

I've mostly been 'practicing' by rehabbing non-Coaches and building a rehab pile, but finally making some headway! Here's a (terribly photographed) Murphy I fixed up for my Mom. I did the usual, plus filled the small holes in the corners with many thin layers of Liquitex tinted with Edge Kote. I also straightened that dent in the strap before I sent it ;) She loves it!

So is there a thread on how to photograph bags well? I'm terrible at it! Seems like there's a thread for everything else in tPF...

Beautiful job! Lucky mom you have!

Your photo is nice, I think. Natural light seems to work best. I study the old Coach catalog photos when I can find them, to get ideas for staging and posing the bag. I also study listings on eBay and Etsy, to see what works and what doesn't.

Here's a couple of threads:

Thank you on all counts! Natural light in the Midwest is still in short supply, so I guess that's my excuse. I especially like the LV thread and the natural backgrounds that don't distract - thanks!

Wow, that is so beautifully reshaped. Nice work! Was that difficult?

That bag came out great. Congrats!

There are no stains, but because it is new to me, I do want to clean it. I would hate to darken it. Definitely a spring/summer color that I want to use frequently. Do you have any suggestions other than Obenauf's? I have some Coach leather cleaner, that may do the job. I like the fact that it isn't shiny and has a bit of a "vintage-y" look. The rose color is just so beautiful. The Bridgit is lovely in that color.
