Hello ladies... I really need rescue

I have an older bag the type with canvas outside and inside, like only one fabric but different color. There were a couple spots inside, so I sprayed with Spray and Wash, waited a bit and then try to clean the spot, but what happened is that the spray is not coming out, is not that it bleached the area, the whole pocket is wet but this is like it looks.

Any suggestions? TIA

Did you try rinsing it really thoroughly? I've dunked bags with this kind of fabric. They had vachetta trim which darkened somewhat from the water though. I would try cleaning it with soap and water.

I found out how to post photos from my computer so here are a few of my damaged purse that I managed to upload.
Welcome to the rehab club! I've rehabbed this bag in black. It was a long time ago and I don't remember what I did. I would be afraid to redye it. Some people have been successful with dyeing, but I never could get the Fiebings to go on evenly. I don't know if the dye would cover the edge kote. It's okay that you removed the edge coating as it is easier to get a more even edge starting from scratch. Keep us posted on your progress. I find that we often know more, at least about Coach specifically, than leather repair specialists.

So I decided to try dunking a Sonoma. It's quite a different experience for me, since I've never dunked a double-layered flap, fabric-lined bag before. I think it's coming out fine, no problems so far, she's still in the drying phase.

Necessity being the mother of invention, I scrounged around my pantry and came up with this drying setup. I'll turn it right side up after a while and put the containers side by side, so the bottom is weighted and dries flat.

This thing is *gorgeous* - congrats! I bet it only gets better - looking forward to the photo update!

The darker spots are still there so Im going to pick up some leather Cpr and give it another week. If they don't disappear I guess I'll have to redunk it. Will that hurt the bag as I just dunked it recently? I also did a willis bag this past weekend and out Lexol on it while still damp. It's british tan so I'm going to wait to get the cpr as I don't want the same thing to happen.

Thank you whateve! I've read quite a bit of your advice before even attempting this and I am really excited about starting the process. I've taped the lining off and most of the hardware. I am using Tarrago dye instead of the spirit based Feibings. I was worried the spirit based wouldn't cover the bag well and the only oil based Feibings dye that I could find was just a straight blue. I am going to mix the midnight and navy for a (hopefully)brighter more interesting navy. I'll keep you and everyone posted on the process. Thanks for the welcome! :smile1:

Green I mean as environmentally friendly green :-D I read this on the bottle so that's why I said my question about the damage is already answered - I assume, if it's environmentally friendly, it should also be leather friendly, right?

Lol, yes, green in both senses of the word! I finished cleaning up the legacy zip with Flitz and then dunked it yesterday and I'm not seeing any residue or harm to the leather finish but will keep an eye on it.

I wonder if it is similar to toothpaste? I've heard you can use toothpaste to polish metal. Also ketchup.

I think so, but I do find this requires less elbow grease. A little Googling showed disagreement over whether it's abrasive even though the bottle says 'contains no abrasives'. I find it less abrasive than Brasso, though, and it did have a little trouble with a buckle with almost all the varnish still on. I'll keep using and report back.

I like these Cape Cod pre-moistened polishing cloths for brass. You can use them over and over, and they seem to last a long time. No messy liquids to handle. "Vanilla" scented.

Whoa, all that plus aromatherapy? Might have to try those.

Wow! I need to get me some of that stuff! I really really hate brasso. Hate the smell, hate that it often enough doesn't do a very good job.. in fact it's the part about cleaning up vintage bags I despise. I have so many bags sitting around waiting for me to shine up the hardware and I just never do it. Maybe some of that stuff might get me working at it. Thanks for the tip!

Me, too! It seems to take forever, not turn out as good as I want, and my fingertips get sore. Might try Catbird9's vanilla-scented cloths, too.

Oh I'm a total noob so you'll want to wait for other opinions! That sounds like enough time to wait to me, but I will dunk anything that isn't nailed down. I feel your pain though - I have the same dark spots issue with a burgundy City Bag that I dunked, CPR'd and Black Rocked over the course of a week, and may have to redunk.
