Hi, not sure where to post this, but this thread looks more active than the borough clubhouse so maybe someone can help. Is the bottom of the oxblood edgepaint borough normal to be darker at the seams? Are they all like that or is this a flaw? Google image seems to show only a few and they are like that, but I just want to be sure. The seller noted it, but I don't think she knew how to describe, only that she didn't want a return because of it. Thank you!

I don't know if it's normal or a flaw, but to me it looks like rubbing, possibly shelf wear just from sitting in the store.

So probably nothing to worry about then? Thank you. I was hoping it wasn't water damage or something but maybe it's just like that then. I found 2 other pics on Google and they both had it darker there so maybe it is what it is. Always loved this color!

Ok, here are the last 2 of my rehab batch, or I should say 1 because i can't get one pic to upload:

Thanks! This hobby is really addicting.

I think soon I will post a pic of my rehabbed family: 3 Patricias, a stewardess, a Soho Bleeker, a Soho buckle, a Willis, an Ergo flap (my favorite; this bag is like a Brancusi sculpture), a Soho belted pouch (think that is the name), a Watson, the compartment bag you referenced and a satin hobo.

Did not really rehab my whiskey anniversary Ali and have yet to rehab a bone Rambler (the only bag that came from ebay, incidently).

These came out nice! I really like that compartment bag.

Good Morning All

I just had a weird thing happen.
I bought a vintage Sonoma (see pic) - great price & condition.
Soaked it in a Dawn bath for 2 hours, stuffed it and as it dried it started reeking of cigarette smoke! Eeeeew!

I'm sure it was totally odor free when it arrived (I even just sniffed the box it came in to be sure).
I grew up in a family of chain smokers, am really sensitive to and hate that smell;
so don't think it could possibly have even a whiff of that smell when it first arrived!

I browsed this thread and am considering three ways of getting rid of it.
Would appreciate opinions if any of these options are OK to use on a light-colored pebbled leather Coach:

1. Soak in 3 parts water/1 part vinegar solution & don't rinse (for how long?)
2. Spray with Fabreeze or ODO BAN
3. When dry, seal in a plastic bag with bowls of baking soda.
4. Putting it in the sun is out until maybe June ;)

Could use some reassurance before I begin, TIA!

This can happen. I've never done the first one, but I have wiped the surface with vinegar. I've done that last three, and it usually takes all three and a lot of time for the smell to dissipate. The good news is that cigarette smoke is easier to get rid of than perfume.

I have used Zero Odor or Febreze natural (unscented). You can also wipe it down with alcohol or vodka, possibly vanilla flavored.

I would pull out the lining and make sure it is odor free. Usually the odors only linger in the leather.

Thanks whateve!
Good to know it's not unusual for this to happen - but it is so weird!

And reassuring that it's possible to get rid of that smell, so I'll try some of these tricks.
Though I think I may need to drink the vodka.:smile1:

BTW, have you sprayed the Zero Odor & Fabreze on a light colored bag without problem?

I have sprayed Febreze on a light colored bag without spotting but I remember being very nervous. I think I held the spray farther away so it didn't puddle. I wouldn't be as worried on pebbled leather as on glove-tanned. I don't think you'll get any spotting.

Another thing I have used in place of baking soda is bath salts. That is the very first thing I used to use because we had it on hand, and it worked very well. I could dump the bath salts inside all the pockets and all over the bag without it leaving any residue. Others have used activated charcoal. I had one of those absorbent mesh bags with the rocks inside; it didn't work all that well for me.

Thanks for the great tips and encouragement, whateve!

FYI yesterday I soaked it in 3parts water/1 part vinegar for 3 hours. I only rinsed the lining,
blotted, stuffed and now it's drying. The smell seems a bit better, but we'll see once it's dried.

They don't sell the scent-free fabreze where I live, so I'll try either baking soda, bath salts or activated charcoal next. I see what you mean, this definitely will involve a lot of approaches to get rid go that smell!!

I won't carry her until the summer, so that helps me be more patient about the process.

Thanks again!

Hello - hoping to give this as a gift. I have rehabbed several bags before, but never a wallet. Am wondering if anyone can recommend the best way to clean this - I prefer dunking because it does a more thorough cleaning, but with how there are several layers of leather with a wallet, I wonder how well it would work. Also if you know anything about this, would love to know more.
