Hi everyone!

First of all, thanks you so much for sharing all the tips on rehabbing vintage coach bags. I read with great interest and finally took the plunge to rehab my newly acquired vintage coach bag. I have bathe the bag, conditioned it and now it's dry. Other parts of the bag looks great, but there is some whitish marks around the buckle part in the inner flap.Does anyone know what cause the white marks and how to remove it? Any advise is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Thank you!! I'm 'little kid' excited!! Can I go to work and get a coach bag every day!? Lol!! Any particular soap I should use? Should I use a sponge to wash? The acrylic paint is mixed with the CPR or the blackrocks?
You're welcome! It is addicting! I just use whatever dishsoap I happen to be using at the time, but others use Dawn or Woolite. Anything is probably fine as long as it doesn't contain bleach or anything harsh. You can use a sponge or just your hands. I use a soft brush. While rinsing, if it feels slimy, keep rinsing. I usually mix the paint with Lexol, which is a thinner conditioner than CPR, but if you don't want to buy another conditioner, it would be fine in the CPR. I wouldn't put in in the Blackrocks. That one is more of a wax.

I don't know if that is something coming off the brass or wear on the leather. None of my bags have that. Does conditioner darken it?

Nope, I tried to put more conditioner on the particular area but when it dries, the whitish marks came back. It wasn't there before I wash the bag. I did use some vinegar and baking soda mixture to clean the brass before I bathe the bag..

That could be your answer. It may have reacted with the brass and removed the dye. I'm not sure what you can do except cover the white marks with refinisher or acrylic paint. At least its on the back where it's not very noticeable.

Yeah luckily the marks are on the back, so I guess I'll just leave it as it is as I am worried the more I do to it the worse it will become :(

Oh on another matter, how do I know how much conditioner is enough for the bag? So far I have applied 3 coats of Lexol in the period of 3 days, the bag is quite supple and soft now although the flap still feels a little stiff. And how do I get the bag to shine? I have tried buffing it but does not seems to shine very much. Is it because there's not enough conditioner on it?

So sorry for the million questions, I am not very familiar with putting moisturizer on leather bags, in fact only learned about it after reading so many posts here...

Lexol isn't a heavy duty conditioner. I don't find it the best for rehabs. Blackrocks would help get the bag to shine.

ETA: I've used vinegar plenty of times and it didn't remove the dye. It must have been the combination with baking soda. Wasn't that mixture smoking?

Yeah it does sizzle when mixed together.. Luckily it did a pretty good job cleaning the brass on the front flap without removing any dye. Just can't understand why it happened the way it did at the back :confused1:

Hmm.. do you think I can put apply some oil on the whitish parts to get it darken so that it will look more even?

If it were mine, I would get some black acrylic craft paint, mix it with Lexol, and paint it on in thin layers until the white was gone.

Hello. I'd like some advice. My 1995 Coach Willis bag has some white spots spread out deep on the unlined interior zippered pocket. Is that supposed to be there? And if not, is it possible to remove it?
Hi Orple, I was getting ready to dunk one of my bags and was cleaning out the inside when I was reminded of your post. It's a little hard to see in your pic, but do your white spots follow along the edges of the pockets like this? Excuse my big old hand!

If they do, it's just where the leather wasn't dyed. I call them "tan lines". :supacool:

Last day of holidays and I finished my watermelon tote. She doesn't look hugely different but is a little darker I think and she doesn't feel so dry. Still not sure what colour she should be. The suede interior is orange. Here's the link to the before pic.
