Jealous! I really want a black stewardess.

I need some advice from the rehabbers! I have a patent Zoe in Petrol and the edging on it is cracking all over, even on the zipper tie piece! I want to know if the Fiebing's Edge Kote is the way to go to get it back to smooth and normal again. Also, how on earth do you apply it? I am assuming very carefully and with a toothpick or q-tip? TIA!

I just use a paint brush to apply edge coat. A fine one of course. I have found that puffy fabric paint fills in the gaps of cracking in modern bags. I like edge coat to put the color back on the edges of straps on vintage bags and sometimes even on the corners.
I agree with using fabric puff paint. What I've been doing lately that works really well for me is using leather cement to cover the entire edge, making a smooth, unbroken surface. Then I'll cover that with leather refinisher or edgekote or craft paint.

Great tip! If there are large cracks, the edgecoat isn't enough to get the job done. And multi layers necessary to cover it makes it stiff. I had a nice large wristlet that had a patent leather with a stitching down the middle. Those straps are far less durable as the older doubled over leather straps. I tried everything, -it was pink to boot- and multi layers just made it as stiff as a wire.

I have used a brush too, but bear in mind it's really hard to clean the brush afterwards and a throwaway is best.

Okay, so mine is just cracking, not pieces coming off or large gaps in between. Lemme take a photo of it in a little bit and post it on here. Then tell me if edge kote or puffy paint is the way to go. I have to say, I am shocked that puffy paint is an option! Who was the person who discovered that?

I believe it was me. :blushing: I originally used it to repair tears in vinyl? lining on a vintage Fendi bag.

You probably don't need the puffy paint. If you don't already have edgekote, you might be able to get away with using acrylic paint with acrylic gloss. I'm curious about this stuff: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008ROPZ6U/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=AF81SRBMBCBM2 I think it might a new and improved version of edgekote. Someone also posted a thread awhile ago about another product that was superior in her opinion to edgekote.

I bought my leather hobo in Macy's in Jun of 2014. My purse has been rained on for a few times already, and I noticed the gold hardware turned lighter (like white gold in some places, but not tarnished). Any suggestions on how to have it restored? I live in the Philippines so sending it back to the US might not be very practical.

TIA! :)

Can you post pictures? Have you tried polishing it? There isn't a lot that can be done for hardware but someone on here has used something that they painted on the hardware with good results. I can't remember the name of the product but it was within the last month or two. If you read back a few pages, you might find it.

This new to me bag (Madison Regis) was shipped in a paper bag with packing tape holding it together. It is a bit smushed on the back and bottom; like it was flattened during shipping. Looking back at the ebay pics, the back did have a little bend in it but now it is much more pronounced. Any suggestions for how to relax the creases in this otherwise terrific bag? Do I say anything to seller?

Congrats! But, sorry to hear about her trip to get to you. I have a quick panic-moment when a package arrives & I see it inappropriately shipped. I would also be interested in how to approach a seller with this matter. I imagine some might not think of what a package can endure along the way. Sorry, I'm not much help on what to do to straighten the leather either. My Regis was also bent but only a little. I did stuff it & can't remember if I hung it in the bathroom so the steam could relax it. I'd wait for others to chime in. Good luck!

I think the steam is a good solution.

It is unacceptable for a seller to ship a bag in a way that allows it to get damaged. I had this happen to me and when I complained to the seller, she said I should file a claim with the post office, like the post office was responsible for her poor packing decision. She didn't even save any money by shipping it in an envelope - it would have been cheaper in a flat rate box, since it weighed 3 pounds. She was willing to take it back but never admitted fault, and I still wanted the bag so I gave her a negative for being rude.

I guess how you approach the seller depends on how much you want to keep the bag and the deal you got. Sometimes it just isn't worth the hassle. I just got a mini skinny that was sold as new with tags. The seller didn't show the back side where there are two ink smudges. It was only $19.99 and I can't get up the energy to bring it up.

IMO, a seller should be made aware of her negligence in not disclosing or photographing flaws as obvious as ink marks. Especially on NWT items, any and all issues need to be disclosed.
