Lovely. She looks really soft and glowy.

Thank you!

Finished a couple more this morning.

Basic Bag with glued-in serial number. She was very thirsty. Must have been the two month trip from Tunisia in an envelope!

The color of this bag is gorgeous!

Navy blue double sided kiss lock. It's so difficult to get a pic that does her justice. I didn't have the courage to dunk her so just Lots of conditioner and Black Rock to finish. The straps were really dry but now they are quite supple again.

I just won a double kisslock on ebay. It hasn't arrived yet, but I was thinking I would dunk it because it looks a little dry in the photos. Is there a reason you think I should avoid that with this particular bag? Mine is slightly different than yours...it has metal trim along the top edges. Do you think it might rust?

Thank you!

It's just that these bags are so old that they are real collector's items. I don't think the metal trim will rust. On mine, the metal trim was at one time brass-plated. You can see parts that still have some of the brass plating. I won't dunk mine partly because it is lined.

Thank you!

Ok, I'm probably the most aggressive dunker in this thread, but I've carefully dunked two double Kisslock bags. One was white, unlined, and the scary one was red with the original stripe lining. It was in pretty bad shape and I didn't pay much for it, but I can say even though the water turned reddish, it didn't bleed on the lining that I could tell. I dunked it because it was super dry, and maybe stained.

The white bag was uneventful. It was a little stinky so I figured a bath would help and it did.

I was very gentle with both bags, but just gave them a little dip.

I didn't dunk mine (a) because I was too scared to - the earlier leathers aren't as thick as the 90's leathers and I'm guessing the threads and glues weren't as sophisticated as they were later so I'm not sure how they would hold up, and I was a little nervous that the hinges might rust, and (b) she was really clean inside and out. I think if she'd been dirty and/ or smelly I would have no choice but to wash her.

Others here are braver and far more experienced than me, so you'll just have to do whatever you're comfortable with.

Thanks for the advice! I guess I will wait to see how it looks when it arrives. If it's not too dirty maybe I can get away with just a conditioning.

Thank you whateve, two.time.bags and coach 943 so much for your suggestions. They all sound good. I will definitely report back on Chamberlain's (and I also order CPR for good measure).

[apologies but for some reason the 'quote reply' didn't work this time.]

I thought I would post a few photos of my Chelsea Mineral Hobo after rejuvenation, in case anyone is interested in seeing the results. It was my first attempt at giving a bag a bath, but I think it turned out pretty well :) It feels so much cleaner! I probably took away some of the 'worn' quality of the natural leather with all of the conditioner I used, but it really helped blend the lighter and darker (dirtier) areas nicely. I couldn't remove the ink stains, but they're not nearly as noticeable as they were before.

Congrats...ya did good...beautiful job (and bag)!

Beautiful job...I have a mid-80's Courier that lived with my sister for a few years...actually in storage in a desert in Washington state...probably gave her 5 rounds of Leather CPR before she stopped feeling like cardboard :)

that came out great! makes me even sadder that the one I ordered didn't work out. I felt like I paid too much for it to battle with the super strong cigarette odor. :(

Try the Smelleze stuff next time. I had the funky musty smell in my basement, and I bought the bags and after one night such an improvement. I had even stopped putting my winter laundry downstairs cause I thought the clothing picked up the funky smell. I did a load of laundry and opened the door the next day, all I could smell was my fabric softener. It is amazing stuff!

That's good to know. So far the only bag I've rehabbed that had real odor issues was that shearling rehab that was so filthy dirty. It also smelled like there had been a full bottle of perfume dumped in it. I figured that all the washing and scrubbing I did would get rid of it but nope! I ended up soaking it in vinegar for awhile. That seemed to clear up the perfume, but now I can still kinda smell the vinegar.

I still wouldn't have messed with that chelsea bag though, I paid a reasonable eBay price for it, it wasn't a "bargain" and it was too expensive for it to be in that condition. I'll work on a bargain bag but not something I paid that much for, with a seller that ended up being really uncooperative. She claimed it was her bag and she didn't smoke, when it smelled up an entire room. I finally had to file a case, which I really don't normally do.

When she got it back, she accused me of damaging the bag while I had it and switching out the hangtag.

Thanks. This one was surprisingly soft when I got her. In fact the softest Coach I've had.

Lovely![/QUOTE]

Thanks

It looks beautiful! Now you and whateve have me on a hunt for a bag this color - curse this thread, lol!

Thanks everyone! Now I have another question for the experts. I just received this double kisslock bag. It's in nice condition other than the wear on the bottom corners. I had thought about dunking it, but it's actually pretty clean, so I'm not sure if it's really necessary. The problem is that it seems misshapen. It's kind of flattened in the middle so it won't stand up very easily. Is this how it should be shaped, or should it look more boxy, with the sides flat? Is there any way of correcting that without dunking and stuffing with towels? What would everyone suggest? Thanks in advance!
