So I picked this one up today. SO EXCITED!!! I know it's a Gigi, but it's the factory version. So my big question is, is it the vachetta version and should I just avoid using anything on the leather and just concentrate on the lining or would it be safe to use conditioner on it?

Sorry, I don't know anything about rehabbing that style, but just wanted to say that she looks gorgeous already!

Suede question - I have read about spot treatment using baking soda. . . do I make a paste with water or with vinegar? Then just dab on with a q-tip? This is a practice bag I am working on before I attack the keeper suede bag! Thanks for any suggestions.

ITA, that looks like an "after" pic!!!! Great looking bag!

Thanks :smile1: It looks great in person--the only issues with it is there's a screw missing from one side of the turnlock (I've already gotten in touch with Coach to get a replacement, but I have no idea what they'll end up sending. Apparently you're allotted 3 pieces of hardware per YEAR and the one they accidentally sent me counts as one.) It's got that thrift store funk (although I might just air it out this weekend), and the lining is a little dirty but fixable.

I just use vinegar first and scrub with a toothbrush. If that's not enough then a thin paste of vinegar and baking soda. Apply, leave a while, scrub with toothbrush and rinse.

Well fwiw I did a compete dunk and condition with the raspberry Ali versiom from this collection, raspberry leather with black lining, and it was a total non event. The bag was in good shape, ift just needed some reshaping and I always feel better carrying a bag if I can do a real cleaning.

I would expect this to hold up fine. According to the creed they re glove tanned not vachetta.

Looks great!

Wow! She's beautiful! Great job!

Great job and gorgeous colour!

Thank you for sharing your technique. I like the idea of the cardboard to avoid lumps. :smile1:

I don't know if this has been brought up before, but just in case I will share my "tip".

After giving a bag a bath and stuff it for drying, if it's the regular top zip that when hanging kind of curves down, I use a small hanger inside the bag and hang it to dry that way with the zipper open, they dry in perfect shape.

Thanks, y'all! There is such a of wealth of information in this thread that it's almost unbelievable. It's nice to go from a reader/ lurker to sharing a success. :smile1:

I think I have my first Madison success using the entire bathe, reshape, condition, etc process. When I received this '93 Chapin, I was pretty upset and almost filed a SNAD. It looked pretty rough in the eBay listing, but the seller sent it unprotected in any way and unstuffed in a thin paper envelope. I ended up not doing it because I did want a '93 Madison, and proving SNAD was probably too subjective to make it worth the hassle for me.

Here's before:

Here's after (bag is not stuffed in this pic):

I think she came out ok. :smile1:
Wow, I am impressed. I have a Chapin with the same beat up appearance and I just pushed it in the back of my closet as a goner. Now, I'm going to have to dig her out and turn her into Cinderella. Thanks for the inspiration.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask...

I was interested in the Large Bleeker Duffles. I got a Black one at Macys that is in perfect condition. I wanted to get the Red Currant one. I noticed the leather is different and every one had a scratch on it. I can't deal with the scratches so I didn't get it. Of course, I really like it and was wondering...will Cadillac or Obenauf (sp??) get rid of scratches, conceal them, or just helps to prevent them?

The leather is the type that scratches. I don't have black so I don't know if that leather is different or just that scratches aren't as noticeable because of the color. It might be most noticeable on the red currant. I have loganberry and olive gray. Personally, I love this leather! I like it better than Legacy duffle leather. Conditioner will hide scratches but won't make them go away. I've put Blackrocks on my Bleeckers, mostly because I was worried about color transfer. Blackrocks is the best for hiding scratches too.

Ok thanks! The Manager put Conditioner on for me so I could see if that would make a difference and it didn't. I'll have to think about it. Thanks for the advice! The leather is pretty awesome and I love the slouchiness of the bag! It will have to be a trade-off that I'll have to figure out I can live with.

Coach conditioner probably won't do much. I've noticed the purple iris duffles I see on ebay look scratched often. I think these two colors might be the worst. When I got my berry color block Willis, it was scratched. I used Blackrocks on it and it made it almost invisible. I haven't noticed it getting more scratches. Certain vintage bags get scratched every time I carry them.
