Do you take off all the hardware before you dunked? (reading up on old posts before I do my first rehab!)

Yes, remove hardware before dunking. It's easier to clean an polish and you can remove any verdigris or dirt that 's gathered underneath and around it.

Hello Everyone

I am starting to collect Coach Sonoma bags, and most of what I've bought so far has just needed a little TLC.

I've never attempted a serious rehab and would like to learn more.
I searched thru this site and it sounds as though it's possible to rehab Sonoma pebbled leather.

Would love your thoughts on this challenged Sonoma bag listed on Ebay -
can this bag be saved?

(I assume the white is paint - haven't contacted the seller yet about that and other concerns.)

Thanks in advance for your help!

I think this would be a straightforward rehab. If it is paint it may just come off in the bath with a little soaking and rubbing. If not, acetone should remove it. As a last resort, black is the easiest colour to touch up with acrylic paint if you need to.

Evening all...earlier tonight I dunked this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Wom...i%2F6YbjSi0zGzTEHWRLY%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

My hands turned blue! As the bag began to dry, I realized there was a huge ink stain on the bottom of the bag. I scrubbed both inside & out with my kitchen brush, rinsed, allowed it to dry a bit, then scrubbed again. And again. There doesn't seem to be any end to this inkstain!

Should I keep going, or can I just let it dry?

The bag is black, and the stain is on the bottom, so it's not visible at all. But I swear an entire pen must have emptied in there.

Also, the strap is much worse than I'd realized. I'll be taking it to my local cobbler for advice. The trim is split in several places on both sides.

I'd try to get out as much of the ink as possible. I don't think it will be be visible against the black but it might affect the texture. I think the way to fix the strap is to remove the edging and find some donor edging to replace it with, or you could try to find a new strap. Or if you want an easy way out, you could sand it smooth and then cover the edges with Leather Refinisher.

It's almost impossible to remove all the ink. You could spend hours blotting and it won't make much difference. It looks like the piping on part of the strap needs replacing. A cheaper option might be to buy another black bag in a different style and share the strap.

We have a leather chair that is over 30 years old and it is wearing out on the arms. Would you use Leather Refinisher on it? It was a very high quality leather chair when we got it. Or should I just make some kind of cover?

Thanks so much!

Does a straightforward rehab for pebbled leather include washing it in the sink/machine?

Hello Ladies!

I'm eyeing this bag but I'm worried I won't even be able to rehab it appropriately.

I don't want to buy it if there is no chance it can be rehabbed. Do any of you ladies believe it can be rehabbed? Or should I pass?
Every rehab is a risk. I haven't had good luck getting yellowing out of nylon and I don't know if the dark marks will come off either. Someone else with more experience with nylon should be able to give a better opinion.

I used bleach on the yellowed white parts of a zebra print nylon Michael Kors bag and it cleaned up well. For that price you've got nothing to lose.

I think you're right. I'm glad I stopped scrubbing because the bottom is looking a little faded. And such wonderful suggestions for "extra" bags!!

Thanks!
