Hello all. I am new to the forum and new to rehabbing Coach. This thread has been very helpful. I have had great success with 5 bags (burgundy satchel, tan satchel, green station, black/tan satchel and brown lunchbox). However, I do have a problem child. I bought a red geometric bag that was in pretty rough shape. After a bath and several applications of CPR and blackrocks, she is still in rough shape. The leather feels great, great little bag, but still pretty scuffy. I have an idea to paint a cherry blossom tree on both sides (using a stencil) to cover up the black marks. Has anyone done anything like this before? If I do paint her, do I need to soak off the blackrocks? I am attaching two pictures. Any and all help is appreciated.

It's dark red and sort of glossy in appearance. It's barely noticeable against the black leather of my Willis, but I'd like to try and remove it nonetheless.

Acetone should remove it. Apply very carefully with a Q tip then wipe off with damp cloth. You may need to touch up with acrylic paint a and conditioner mix after.

There is a thread from a few years ago about someone painting on a Coach bag. You might be able to find it in a search of the main Coach forum.

If you are going to paint anything on it, I think you need to remove any conditioner. I think leather dye companies make something to prepare leather for dyeing, which I think is similar to washing a bag. The only problem is that I don't think moisturizer will be able to soak into the leather after you paint. Have you found a paint you want to use? I've seen several painted purses and often they don't look good because of the type of paint.

Another thing you could do is just redye it red. You could use Leather Refinisher by Wood n Stuff for either touching up the red or painting the design. They make 1 ounce sample sizes that would be enough for your project.

ETA: For some reason, on brightly colored 90s bags sometimes blackish marks appear during rehabbing. I think after awhile once the conditioner has soaked in, these spots are less apparent. Is this what happened in your case, or were those marks always there?

It is interesting that you mention the black marks appearing during rehab. I think they are worse than when I started. I love the leather so much, you have me rethinking painting. Maybe I'll just let her sit awhile and see what happens. I will say that my blackrock buffing rag has a lot of red on it, so the dye is coming out. Thanks so much for your advice. I hope I haven't ruined her.

Those marks that look like crosses look like those that happened to mine.

I've tried the oil and like it. Of course you still have to buff--and buff --and buff. Found it helpful to keep the bottle in a zip-lock bag or similar, as mine, at least, tends to gets slippery.

I actually canceled the order on the oil, it hadn't shipped yet, and got the solid instead. For some reason I think that would require a little less buffing.... Am I right? Plus, I have seen some bags that two.time.bags has done and I love the end result she gets; I'm hesitant to try anything different because I want my bags to look just like hers [emoji4]

I ordered this wristlet off of eBay and when it got here it was very worn and not at all what the seller had described or pictured. I was wondering if there was some way to spiff it up a bit or if it's a lost cause and I should just return it? I got it dirt cheap and I'm really hoping there's some way to fix it so I can just keep it. I have attached a picture of the corner where it's worn the most, but pretty much every edge and corner of the wristlet is worn to some degree. ImageUploadedByPurseForum1427686456.988853.jpg

The color is half gone. I don't think there is any way to make it look new. But I bought a 2006 Legacy wristlet that looked as worn and it looked 100% better when I used Leather Honey. That leather was special. I don't know if this leather would respond the same way.

I think they are probably for different purposes. The oil is probably more of moisturizer and should be used early on, possibly replacing CPR or other moisturizers. The solid is used near the end of rehabbing to give it a nice sheen and protect the leather. I might try the oil someday when I run out of Leather Honey.

ETA: On Amazon, the reviews for the oil say that it darkens a lot so I probably wouldn't want to use it on a light colored leather.
