Hi, I dunked a black Coach Leatherware satchel the other day. It's from the Lightweights collection, I think. Plentyofpurses is selling one right now in red. Anyway, after washing it I stuffed it with towels and when it was almost dry I started applying Apple Leather cleaner. I only have that and Blackrocks which I was going to put on afterwards based on the instructions here. The thing is, the Apple stuff is making the leather really dull, it's soft but it doesn't seem to add anything special to the bag. I just ordered some Leather CPR online since you can't seem to get it in Canada. Should I wait for the cpr and redunk it or should I continue putting another coat of the Apple stuff on and then buff after the Blackrocks? It also seems to have lost quite a bit of color on the handles after dunking. Thanks. I know whateve says the Lightweights can be kind of tricky

Hi Fuzzymummy!

Are you using the Apple Leather Cleaner or the Apple Leather Care?

Lightweights are hard work. I'm not familiar with Apple, but if it's making it soft that's good. Buff afterwards. I think you will find the Black Rock will bring back the glow and may improve the colour of the handles.

So ladies, I thought I'd show you what $46.00 buys at the thrift store 1/2 off purses sale! A few rehab projects for sure, lol!

The grape nubuc is a donor bag for tassels!

Oh wow! I consider myself lucky when I find two/three bags, in one of my hunting trips, and I mean trips of hours of driving, but I never get to the stores when they have sales, YOU are lucky and the other lady that finds things at Goodwill all the time, LOL

I need your expertise, please.

First, silly question... Should I dunk a white leather bag that has black strap (not detachable) and piping? My inclination is better not, but may be there is a trick to this, you tell me :smile1:

Second, I received my lucky buy and I totally love the color (the pictures do not show it right), is like pumpkin ready to eat, LOL. I hope I do not have to dye this bag, but the "splatter" is weird because is on the front, the back, inside the handles... I know I can give this one a bath, but should I try to clean the stains first, with what? Any advice will be really, really appreciated.

Ow wow! Was the drain cleaner and grass seed included? :p

I'm so envious of your thrift stores. The best bag I ever saw in one here was JAG brand!
Have fun and post pics.

LOL! My husband's workbench was the only empty space I could find! They wouldn't all fit on the washing machine. :smile1:

Thanks Wishing! They had rubbermaid bins full of bags, so I had to dig for most of them. The only one that was in the display case was the trail bag.

It's Apple Leather Cleaner.

Thanks, I'll try that. I am an instant gratification junkie, so I get impatient to see results.

Since you're using the cleaner, you'll need to use some sort of conditioner/moisturizer after, as two.time mentioned.

OK so a cleaner isn't a conditioner. If it was me I'd re-dunk to rinse off the cleaner and whatever dirt it removes, and wait for the CPR to condition it with, then finish with Black Rock.

Any idea of what caused the stains? Does it look like grease? I'd spray it with a de-greasing laundry spray, leave for 5 mins then dunk in very warm water and dish liquid and rub with a terry towelling face washer or similar, rinse, stuff and dry. See if that makes a difference. I'd do anything to avoid dyeing it, so if that doesn't work and you really can't live with the spatters you could try acetone. Keep us posted as you go!

Re the black and white bag.To test if it's colourfast, wet a cloth and rub the piping and strap and see if any colour comes off. It might be all right to dunk if you use cool water and do it quickly. Is it a Coach bag?

Great haul! Um, that's not a trail bag - it's a small Legacy flap. Someone started calling it a trail bag on ebay and now everyone makes that mistake.

Beenburned made me this sign:
