That's not a Willis. Are you afraid to get it authenticated?

How can you only wet the leather in certain parts? Aren't you afraid of water spots? Did you use soap? The water can't soak in unless you remove whatever you applied to the surface. A bag that big will take days to dry.

I'm not afraid I just don't care. I like the bag, if the bag is real that's awesome, but not the reason I purchased the bag. I like the bag and plan to use it for class. I guess if I really WANTED a Coach briefcase I wouldn't have bought it in the haste that I did or bought it online. (I got so excited about liking a briefcase that I didn't care what brand it was or that it was missing a handle) I just really liked the style of it.

Also, no I am not worried about water spots as I wet only the whole sides from stitching to stitching. I obtained no spots it is a tad damp still, but it was soaked evenly and stuffed. The from and back didn't need to be soaked they were soft and supple. The sides and bottom were dry. I used a sponge to help me.

Also, since I failed to read all of one of your comments, yes I use passer on ALL of my stuff. You just need to let it soak and then WIPE it down really well. It will leave a bit of a greasy film, so if you plan on using it right away, you should rethink that. It will essentially try to "replace" the dye in the leather. so you will wipe a decent amount of dye off. If you dyed leather unevenly tho it is great to help make it a bit more even. It helped move some excess dye to different parts of the bag so I did not need to use any shoe polish on it except for minor scratches on the strap. Also, if you can fit the bag into a plastic bag and squish out the air and let it sit. I used a garbage bag for this one. Just make sure you remember what's in the bag...

Here's my finished bag (minus the strap, still working on it)

Aw, I guessed something like that! I had the raspberry but returned it. Such a gorgeous bag!

Newer leather bags may need different treatment than vintage ones. I know some people were very successful using sharpie markers on Legacy duffles. It was suggested to me to color the marker onto wax paper, then dip a paint brush into that and brush it on. This is scary because sharpie is permanent! I would try acrylic paint first because you can wash it off if it doesn't look good. It comes in a million colors so you should be able to find or mix a perfect match. I don't like to apply it full strength because it has a different sheen and texture than leather, although that might not be a problem with the textured leather. I mix the paint with conditioner (I use Lexol but Apple would be fine). You can use a sponge, paint brush or your fingers to apply it.

Hey ladies, I purchased this bag via ebay & was wondering if there is anything I can do to restore the color. It appears that the color has worn off on the corners & back. It's textured leather. Thoughts?

Hi! So I had a bag like that once. I applied shoe polish and used a horse hair brush to brush it in. Then, let it sit a few minutes (I am not patient so like 2 minutes should be fine...) Then apply a thin coat of conditioner in circular motions.

It will help spread out the polish and get it in the cracks.

Thank you, whateve! I'll give it a shot. I was going to try returning it, but I so love this bag and want to make it beautiful again! Is there any certain brand of acrylic paint that you feel is best?

Aha! What type of shoe polish? I know nothing about shoe polish lol.

I haven't noticed a difference in brands of acrylic paint. I usually just pick the one that has the best color match.

Aw, gee, we really don't like to use shoe polish on purses! I know some people use Meltonian. I'm not sure if that is considered a shoe polish.

Lol. In that case, I'll stick with the paint.

My grandma used shoe polish to spruce up her leather bag (non name brand). I promptly gifted her a mini preston in lemon. Now the preston is her "special occasion" bag. ;)

I used Kiwi polish, it is easy to get your hands on (sold at pharmacies and food stores) or you can buy online (comes in a tin and is a bit waxy). They have a select color variety. My friend uses Meltonian for her shoes and likes that. I believe it would work with that polish and there are wayyyyyy more color selections you can buy it on Amazon.

If you go this route let the bag dry then when you think its dry wipe it off. You don't want color transfer. I did that once... Ruined a pair of jeans...

OK Rehab gang I need some help and suggestions. I need to know if there is a way to rehab a Coach Poppy Glam Silver Metallic Tote? It isn't a bag I can chunk into the washing machine, I know. Has anyone ever tried to do anything with these?

I cannot deal with the disgusting interior without gagging. Don't look WhatEve!!!

I pulled the interior out and it is soaking in my bathroom sink as we speak. I have my nail brush and my Dawn standing by. BUT, I want the exterior clean as well. The metallic finish is not like others I have had. The metallic finish seems to be bonded to the leather if that makes any sense and I don't know what to do. Soooooo......this is my conundrum.

Help me ladies!!!

OMG that is gross! I don't want to think about what has been inside that poor bag!

The leather looks the same as the leather on the corner of the Wave Bag I'm currently working on.

The rest is suede in 'waves' of different colours. When I dunked it, that corner bled onto the adjoining suede section, so if it is the same leather then I'm guessing yours would bleed onto the lining. I think you're probably tackling it the best way possible by starting with the lining, I'd be using gloves and a mask LOL!. You could probably just wipe over the outside with a damp cloth. I really don't know if conditioner will make a difference to this type of leather finish. Whateve may know. I think I can see spots of some sort. If the finish has rubbed off you could try an acrylic metallic paint to cover them. You can get acrylic paint pens which are really easy to use.

I KNOW right?!!!! Believe me I have a box of rubber gloves that are used often!!! How anyone can trash such an expensive bag I will never know.

Thanks for the hints Two.Time! It probably will bleed, though I guess it would just bleed onto itself. I'll watch it along the edges where it meets the lining though I don't know what I can do about it other than blot I guess. With the interior looking that bad the exterior looks pretty good considering the abuse it has lived through. It does have some darker places where the metallic has wear. But I kind of like that, Hard to explain but like a shabby chic look. It's just for my use right now.

Your wave bag will look wonderful when you are finished with it I'm sure! But I'm telling you guys, I don't think I will ever try suede - not with the problems you experts have with them. I bought a little Coach green suede make up sized bag a few months ago, I'm still afraid to mess with it much!!

It is impossible not to look! What has been seen can't be unseen. :yucky:
I'm pretty sure it isn't the same as the wave bag. The Glam was made several years later. My wave bag's metallic leather has a very soft feel, but not suede like my silver Poppy cinch. (My wave bag might be different from Two.time.bags' as mine is the blue one made of different materials including smooth leather and jacquard.) I think my daughter has the same glam in gold. I don't have it in my possession, so I can't look at it, but I agree with Two.time.bags that conditioner probably won't help. I bet it came with a care card that said not to use Coach conditioning and cleaning products. I don't think the previous owner had the word "clean" in her vocabulary!

Here's a happy update on my little pink suede wristlet. I put it in a bath of Rit navy blue die and voila! Aubergine! There are still a few faint spots but minimal (especially compared to before!). The lining went a little darker, mostly on the CC part of the pattern, but I think it does a nice job of keeping the strap and tag integrated in the color scheme.

Two.time.bags you are very ambitious with that wave bag! It is such a beautiful bag and yours seems pretty nice even in the before pics. I saw one on Ebay several months go-- I seem to recall it being in much worse condition--and was tempted. I think I had just read a post by Joodles and/or you about a suede rehab that had great results. I definitely have more optimism towards suede as a result but I'm glad I didn't take that on!
