I picked up a cute handbag at GW today. :smile1:
First bag I got at GW and used vinegar and baking soda on the suede corners. I'm afraid to dunk the whole bag. I used a very damp cloth and a little Ivory dish liquid on a few spots and it seemed to clean up really well. No bad smells, tears or holes anywhere on the bag. Should I still dunk the whole bag? I used Coach Leather Moisturizer on the strap too. The fob tag is missing. Hoping I can find one that matches the bag color.

Here are a few pictures.

Hello. I purchased a very loved and used Lindsey today. She has some discoloration spots mainly on the bottom with one on the front. I only paid $15 so I don't mind the marks. But if anyone has any good ideas for making them less noticeable, please let me know. The inside is okay, so I don't think I will be doing anything major but if anyone could help me with this rehab. I would be very grateful.

I'm not good uploading fotos
Wow, that is an amazing price, especially if you can get it looking new again! Wasn't it around $600 new? I would use acrylic paint in small amounts to touch up the spots. Then I would use acrylic glaze on the bag. The original finish was glossy and it looks like that has worn away some.

Personally I wouldn't dunk. I would spot clean. It's okay to get it wet. I just don't think that getting it sopping will help. It isn't like leather that plumps up with dunking.

Thank you whateve! I'm going to try it on the bottom. Has their been anyone on this forum that has done some rehab on this type of material, do you know? You're right the glossy is all but gone but what a great purse it is anyways.

I didn't rehab my Madison croc pieces as I bought them new and they pretty much stayed that way. It seems to me it would take a lot of abuse to get it in that condition! I have rehabbed some Brighton and Brahmin croc things. The croc was stiffer than Coach. I used polyurethane varnish on them. I think it was a big improvement.

Tetondeb, this is great! I started doing rehabs a short while ago, and it's a relief to see my instinctive sequencing is the same as what you recommend, though you add a number of useful hints along the way too. Thanks for making this and sharing! Looking forward to the next installment!

I think I'll show my NYC rambler and musette that cracked when I soaked them :( I've found that if there is any coating at all, they will crack. The suede side expands when it gets wet, but because the leather side is treated (dyes, shoe polishes, etc.) it can't exapnd without splitting... I was devastated the first time it happened. The second time I swore I'd not soak a NYC bag ever again.

I'm happy with how my spot cleaning turned out I don't see any of the spots and stains I did which were not many at all when I got this bag. I went to the Coach Outlet store today and they don't sell suede cleaning kits but use too and one of the guys went to the back to check if they had one still laying around and found one and gave it to me and I asked if I could get a new fob tag and they guy I asked went and got a container full of them in all colors and sizes and found one that matched close enough in color and they gave me that one. I got handed a 50% off coupon when I walked and got another bottle of moisturizer.

A cracked Musette! That would be heart breaking! :crybaby:

Thanks for the heads up on this. What if you were to scrub with acetone before dunking?

I picked this Alex up off Posh for $15 in pretty bad shape. I was able to lighten the transfer marks with white vinegar and rubbing alcohol. Any ideas on getting them completely out or is she destined to be a knock around bag? I'm surprised you were able to lighten them. That looks like it has soaked under the patent coating. You might be able to paint something on the surface to cover them and then use varnish to get it shiny again.
