I'd try industrial grade acetone next. Wear gloves and use it in a well ventilated space. Apply with a terry cotton cloth and scrub firmly. If that doesn't work, then last resort, ammonia. If it is mould as whateve suggests that might work and it would definitely kill it. If it's not mould then it should at least fade the spots.

Don't give up. You can definitely make this bag look better!

I agree with whateve that as the eyelet is only on one side, it was probably for a wrist strap. The same as a Basic Bag maybe.

Post it on the ID thread.

Where do you get industrial acetone from? Should I use it before a bath? Or would a hot bath work just as well? Thanks for the confidence! I need it! I am glad it is not a lost cause!! Plmk! Thank you!!

You can get Acetone from hardware stores and hardware sections of variety department stores. It's a solvent so dissolves wax, oil, paint, varnish, etc, so no, hot water is not the same. Its in nail polish remover but the industrial grade stuff doesn't have glycerine and vitamin E and whatever else they add to make it less harsh on nails. It's also cheaper to buy it in a larger bottle. I bought a 1 litre bottle yesterday for $11.

Do you have Obenauf's? After acetone and a bath, I'd let it dry for a day then apply a couple coats Leather Therapy or CPR with a day in between, then a coat of Obenauf's, really massage it in, and leave for a couple days, and in the sun if possible, then buff really well with a microfibre cloth and brush. Finish with Black Rock.

One more question. How do I know if it is ready for a bath or not? Or if I need to do a few coats? With the spots disappear? Thank you!!

This will be a long project. You are not applying the acetone in coat, per se, you are using it to scrub the bag. You should bath it after scrubbing. Acetone is really drying which is why you need to wear gloves (it will also remove your nail polish), so you need to wash it and rinse it to remove all of it. Once it dries you'll get an idea of whether it worked or not and you can decide then if you need to give it another scrub and then another wash. It may or may not remove the spots, but it should even out the colour. Post here after your first attempt after acetone and washing.

Can anything be done for scuff marks on a dark gray bag? She had her bath, lots of cpr, blackrocks, and 2 coats of obenaufs. The scuffs blend in pretty well. Angled in the light to show them better. Its a beautiful Costa Rican leather Sutton. What leather! Must have more!

Just thought I'd post an update on my clay Gigi rehab since I've been carrying it lately. I used the Wood n Stuff leather refinisher on this, after testing the tarrago which looked ok but started rubbing off in places almost immediately.

This bag was so discolored and beat up I felt it was worth drastic measures. I don't know if this grey color is different than others I've used because it probably contains white, or if I just applied it in thicker coats than I usually do but its a little shinier than other colors. It is not, however as shiny as it looks in the picture. Anyway, after a year of occasional carrying I think it's held up well. It is essentially a color change because the bag was more of a yellowish greenish color when I started.

Oh and here is a link to the beginning of the Gigi saga. http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-clubhouse/coach-rehab-and-rescue-club-833400-46.html#post25897652

Did you use the leather cleaner conditioner prep stuff before using the refinisher?

It's a bit difficult to make out what they are in the pic. I guess you could try buffing them out. Are they darker or lighter than the grey? If they are lighter then you could try mixing some matching acrylic paint with conditioner. Another alternative is matching Meltonian cream. Of course if you use either of these methods and are selling the bag, you should disclose it in the listing.

The scuffs are darker, less shiny than the bag. Buffed like crazy and they remain rough. I purchased Meltonian cream to match. Giving the bag to my daughter-in-law for her birthday. Not going to sell, so might test a spot of polish. Thanks for the help.

Thank you such for answering ALL my questions! I went to the hardware store abboufht a small bottle for around $7. I can't belive you found a huge container for $11! At my store the big containers were $24 and up! But this will be a good start! I will try and do the first scrubbing this weekend. If time lets me! I am just in awe of everyine who is so peristant in the rehabs and can get them done! Between school, work and whatever else life throws at us, all my energy is gone and it is time to relax and go to bed! Lol! Rehabing is relaxing, but it takes patience! Anyways, I will try and get to it as soon as I can! And I will post pictures here, during and after pics! Thank you for your help!:)

One more question: how much acetone do you use? Do you soak the cloth and then rub it in? Or pour it on the leather? How much do you scrub, before it is to much? Is the color going to go away? (I guess that was more than one question!) I dont have Obdruf's (spelling wrong sorry) should I get some? Amazon? Thank you!!

No I didn't. My thoughts are that you'd want the leather to be really clean but maybe lightly conditioned, if the bag has dry spots, with the conditioner really soaked in. The reason I say this is because if the bag has dryish spots the coating might not take evenly.
