Hi, I just purchased this bag. For the price I thought it was worth a try. Should I use wipes to clean this or can I dunk it? It is pretty dirty but it's a very pretty color combo.

It is vachetta. You can dunk it but the leather will darken, more around the edges. Cleaning with wipes might work. I use vinegar on vachetta as it helps lighten it as it cleans.

Just thought I'd post an update on my clay Gigi rehab since I've been carrying it lately. I used the Wood n Stuff leather refinisher on this, after testing the tarrago which looked ok but started rubbing off in places almost immediately.

This bag was so discolored and beat up I felt it was worth drastic measures. I don't know if this grey color is different than others I've used because it probably contains white, or if I just applied it in thicker coats than I usually do but its a little shinier than other colors. It is not, however as shiny as it looks in the picture. Anyway, after a year of occasional carrying I think it's held up well. It is essentially a color change because the bag was more of a yellowish greenish color when I started.

Oh and here is a link to the beginning of the Gigi saga. http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-clubhouse/coach-rehab-and-rescue-club-833400-46.html#post25897652

It looks great! I like the color.

I have a bag I'm trying to use Leather Refinisher on now. I'm having trouble getting the color on even. If I try to add another coat, it removes the first coat.

ETA: I waited a long time and now it isn't removing the first coat, but you can see brushstrokes and it look smudgy, not smooth. I'm using a makeup sponge. I wonder if I should mix a little water into the Refinisher.

I have this bag and it has a weird texture, like when I apple conditioned it didn't seem to sink in. If it's super dirty I'd be tempted to dunk, because I think it would come out OK, but the thing is you have to think about how you'll feel if it doesn't, and if it's worth the risk. I think the worst case scenario is it would dry unevenly and maybe spotty.

What color? On what kind of leather? It's been so easy for me to use-the Gigi was the only one that was a problem and it was just such a huge project with so much detail that it was just time consuming.

I think the only tip I can give is really thin coats. I used a make up sponge for most of the projects. I used the little circular sponge that Wood n Stuff sells with the Gigi and I think that may be why I'm not as happy with it, it resulted in thicker coats.

ok!!

just washed her- ( hunter? green bleecker shoulder bag with brass fittings and tattersal liner). in the washer, on delicate, cold water, and woolite for colors. she came out very well! no bleed, no troubles so far. knock on wood. she is an 06, i think?

anyhow, she's stuffed. will slather her later today or tomorrow, slather her again later on, polish her brass, and sit back and admire her!

thank you again :tup:to whateve and two.time.bags! ps, whateve i pm'd you..

Thanks, I wasn't sure if it was vachetta. I don't know why but I always thought vachetta was just a natural tan color. It was only 14.50 so I have a feeling it's a lot dirtier IRL than it shows! If I do dunk it I wonder what will happen to the suede trim. Do you have this color the mossy green?

The interior looks pretty clean. I am a little worried that the crystals may come off if I wash it. What kind of wipes would I use? Baby wipes or some leather cleaner wipes?

The creed says it is vachetta. I think the suede would be fine if you dunked. You would have to brush it to bring back the softness.

Vachetta is often a natural color but it can also be dyed any color.

The green was called bottle green; it was made in 2007.

You're brave washing her in the machine! I'm looking forward to seeing your pictures.

The wipes I use on vachetta are the simple face wash cloths since they don't have perfume, oil or alcohol. (In my mind it's worth the extra cost since it won't ping you as having babies with Target or Walmart! And I have a ton of face wash cloths hanging around.) Or if you don't mind getting targeted advertisements, you want baby wipes with no perfume, oil or alcohol.

I'm using the refinisher on a NYC skinny tote. It was my first rehab and I'm using the refinisher as a last resort.

Mine is the natural vachetta color. I have been very tempted to scrub the suede strap because it's the only part on mine that is a little dirty looking, but it's just not that bad so I haven't gotten around to it and maybe never will.

As far as washing it, like I said you just have to weigh the pros and cons-you just never know. If I felt it was really dirty I would probably wash it but I fall on the extreme side of rehabbing.
