I think the strap on the MacDougal Zip is beyond repair. :( Added some more glue this morning. Still a cute little bag. I really like the small bucket bag. Progress pics.

So, I decided to cut off the damaged area and shorten the strap! I think it will work! I'm reattaching: with two go-rounds of glue, followed by filler material, followed by edgekote and dye. It's such a small bag, I don't know how heavy it could get, but not very, which bodes well for the repair holding.

Here's a pic. The right hand part is detached, the left hand part is where I'm glueing the new ends together. I probably cut off about 5 inches. The strap was 50 inches, so now it will be about 45 inches.

It's fortunate that the bad strap is removable. It makes it easier to replace.

Finished the rehab on my blue soho zip hobo. I love this ginormous bag and it's my new everyday bag. It was one of the squished batch, got it for $20! :)

Nice! It’s like a Duffle with lighter weight leather! If I had known of the lightweight styles about 10 or 15 years ago, especially they way I do now, I would have looked into them. At that time, for work, I was traveling around different sites and liked to tuck “one more thing” in my bag as I left for work. Plus I still carried a checkbook wallet.
I still flirt with getting a lightweight Drawstring Duffle.

The Soho Zip Hobo weighs a ton! I don't think this style is a lightweight leather. The leather is thick and amazing and SO beautiful. I'm finding some practical difficulties with the bag, however, and still seeing if it will work for me. I like compartments! This has one huge open deep space. Two small side pouches. If I fill the pouches with stuff, they take over the space, and it's more difficult to reach into the bag and find anything. Also, I'm used to a bag with a long strap so I can keep it on my shoulder and grab stuff inside it. This bag, the strap is wide and shorter, so I actually have to take the bag off my shoulder and set it down to open it and look inside. I still think the Stewardess bag is the style for me. Lately, I've been using a City bag.

Anything called Soho is supposed to be the same leather as Lightweights.

I have this issue too — I adore big deep bags and totes. But they are indeed The Abyss. And I’m too impatient to keep everything in zip pouches. I recently bought a great organizer off Etsy for my heavy vintage 9085. Now the bag is even heavier 😆 but dang do I love the pockets!

Here’s the link (I think I can do this, I have no acquaintance or affiliation with this seller, but tell me if I should remove it!). ETA: The version I ordered is round and keeps the duffle upright too! https://www.etsy.com/listing/1706135453/vintage-coach-feed-sac-felt-insert-bag

Sharing an easy rehab, gifting to an SIL for Mother’s Day. Mahogany ‘92 Costa Rica 9844 Legacy West Demi Pouch.

Structurally it was great. The color was worn and unevenly faded though, giving it an orangey-red undertone and darker trim and strap. And the leather felt a tad plasticky. I actually bought two of these bags and intended this one as a donor bag for the other. But once they were bathed and conditioned (several apps of CPR mixed with a few drops of LT starting while still quite damp), this one was in much better condition! Coach branded dark brown lining came out pristine. So I darkened and evened out all leather parts inside and out with Juvacuir liquid Dark Brown #4, finished with Blackrock, soft cloth buff, and a quick metal polish (and a shiny little charm).

It’s a deep chocolate brown now with a hint of the mahogany red undertone still in sunlight. (It looks almost black in the photos but it’s definitely darkest brown IRL.) This exact shape and size of bag is *everywhere* in new bags for spring and summer this season!! What goes around, comes around.

[Note: Juvacuir #4 is NOT a color match for early 90s mahogany. I intentionally darkened to dark chocolate for my SIL.]
