Nice job, you BIN bag looks great, congratulations! Keep up the good work!
I have also successfully used chain straps to replace missing straps on some rehab bags, you can see a couple of examples at the link below:
One of my favorite styles! And an 80s US Shoulder Sac 9730 in black… her sheen is much richer than my phone camera picks up… 😊
Would you believe I wasn’t familiar with this style til I thrifted it, even though it’s my era, and I love this bag! This is the one I restored as a Christmas gift for my best friend since childhood. She loved it! And now I want one for myself. 😁One of my favorite styles!
Not many people know about it. The only issue with them is that the first ones produced didn't have enough rivets attaching the buckle and/or they put the rivet through the seam, which is the weakest part. The newer versions fixed this problem. They didn't make the style very long so I guess it didn't do that well. I like it so much better than the fatter duffle sac.Would you believe I wasn’t familiar with this style til I thrifted it, even though it’s my era, and I love this bag! So interesting about the rivets. My first Coach that I bought with my own paycheck (which I’m still using) was the Duffle. And I love it. But as everyone knows it’s huge and when it’s kitted up it’s really heavy. This streamlined version is so great! Not many people know about it. Swinger update. Leather repair guy said he couldn't help. I don't know why not!!? Anyway, I've decided to work on it some more myself. I'm going to see if I can replace the slider part. If that doesn't work, I'll see if I can replace the whole zipper. I bought some zippers today by way of Value Village and some old purses that I thought might be compatible color/size/quality to cut the zippers out of them! This leather (lightweight) is just that. Thin and flexible. I betcha I can sew in a zipper myself, by hand.Sad story. I got this nice large vintage swinger bag...British Tan. Zipper kept separating. I fixed another bag with that problem before, so thought maybe I could this time. Nope.I tried to tighten the slider (brass) with a pliers and a piece of it cracked off! Now the zip doesn't move at all. The zipper tracks look perfect, I think it does just need a new slider. I'll take it to a leather repair guy and see if he thinks he can replace the slider. So, boo that I wasn't able to fix it myself. Unless... maybe buckleguy sells zipper sliders.

Amazing!Update: That was surprisingly easy, and I fixed the zipper. I took a slider hardware off a Value Village purse, and it fit perfectly. I undid the end of the zipper, took off the broken hardware, and slid the new piece on. Fits! Works. Reattached the "stopper" at the end, and sewed the area for good measure. Put on the original ring and zipper pull to the new slider piece. Here also is a photo of my zipper lubricant--chapstick! Now I can rehab this bag and bring it back to gorgeousness!

I really do think those hardware pieces are universal--as long as I'm matching the right size. Leather guy said he "only has YKK brand zipper pulls so it wouldn't work." I didn't believe him, and now I have my evidence! I also asked him if I could buy one from him, and he said "no." PS: He's lost my business.Amazing!
