Progress report! Only one area of concern on this bag...all the other marks came right off. It's called soapy water and it does wonders! I dunked! There's also a mark on the fabric strap that needs more work.

That is great work! Looks loads better. Maybe try a very delicate magic eraser on the last spot?

Impulse purchase! I have no idea how to fix and/or improve and minimize this rip, but I'll do some research. Printed calf hair grammercy satchel. The front is perfect! I don't know why I wanted this bag, but it's a $1100 retail bag for $50. I DO like a challenge!

If it were my bag I would try a little creative patching. Maybe a bit of suede or textured leather glued or sewn on over the rip? Maybe cut the suede in the shape of a cow? Pun intended 😂

I bought a "chocolate" colored piece of calf hairy leather to use as a patch. We'll see how the color lines up...neither the bag nor the leather piece has arrived as of yet. I was thinking of smoothing/somewhat enlarging the "rip" as a shape that would mesh better with gluing. I was thinking of gluing IN rather than ON. I was thinking I'd want it flush with what's there, and use a "comb over" with the hair to hide the glueing.

A question for you is, do you want to restore it as it was? Or find a fun/attractive more modern replacement? There are often vintage straps alone for sale, just got to scour the internet. Or, find a Coach bag to buy suitable for cannibalizing it's strap. If you want a new look, I really like Coach's linked colorful straps. I found a similar on etsy.
I was hoping for the one that is for the purse but am having difficulty doing so....think it may be best to go with a fun strap instead. Thanks!

I got another very inexpensive shopgoodwill.com rough shape bag that I want to play with. It's an "oach" bag. The C is broken off on the front emblem. I'm hoping to remove the 3 emblems entirely and use filler for any holes there. Or a leather flower there. It is a nice bag, actually, in spite of the front and a couple small ink marks on the back. $9. "Kristy Shoulder Bag In Colorblock," retails for $478. When I feel around the emblem, it's covered on the back with something. I'm thinking about cutting the lining in the front pocket, going inside the "works" of the bag, remove the covering, and pry up whatever prongs are holding the thing in place with a screwdriver. Any other ideas?

Did it! Step one!

I was looking for some leather flowers to put on the front of the Kristy color block bag... looking at Etsy, looking at what I have. I was thrifting today, and found this pair of shoes crusted with leather flowers on top. Bought 'em. Dismantled 'em. I've detached several of the flowers (it's slow going work) and washed them to uncurl the ends. Now they are drying. I'm pleased! One of these painted black might end up on the Kristy bag.
