I’ve been working with a Stewardess that was covered in shoe polish. The same rules apply to paint as well. I dunked it in hot water, and it helped loosen a lot of the shoe polish, and I scrubbed it with a nylon brush. The polish looks & feels very gummy when coming off. Once the bag dried, I used pure acetone (Klean Strip) & 91% isopropyl alcohol to remove the rest of polish. It’s a long process, and do it outside or in a well ventilated room.
Here’s a pic mid-way through the polish removal. See all the tiny little black specks on top of the bag, that’s the shoe polish.

Thanks for sharing the reference photos. I'm sorry you are dealing with such a tough rehab but I hope you'll share photos when you're finished. Good luck!I want to include this as well for reference. The inside of the bag didn’t have shoe polish. Here’s a comparison to know what to look for if you think a bag was painted/shoe polish.

Sad to see well intended?? people applying shoe polish or leather paint to wonderful Coach items. Leather CPR is amazing and could have probably helped your Stewardess bag or the coin purse I noted.
And the Mercari listing....who wants to pay that price to finish the job, even if the seller includes the paint? OR remove the paint and start over?
