Wallet dunks and wavy zippers PSA:

I picked up this fab Holt Renfrew calfskin wallet at my local thrift store, did a light rehab because it was in great shape, and ended up with a wavy zipper. I didn't know that this could happen until I joined TPF and saw that many of you had the same experience.

Since I really liked the wallet, I shrugged and started using it. I didn't pay much attention to the zippered compartment because I seldom use it, but in a matter of a few weeks the zipper was once again straight. 😊

Thought my fellow rehabbers would enjoy knowing this.

There's a coincidence - I just found these two videos, a before and after, where sanding was used to smooth out surface scratches on a Coach bag: Before and After. In the after video the poster claims that the scratches can no longer be seen in person even though the camera picks them up. I find that hard to believe.

Has anyone here sanded a bag's surface and would you please share your thoughts on the results? I searched the thread and the references related to sanding involved suede.
Yes, I have and I don't recommend it. If you sand, you destroy the top layer of the leather. You know how conditioner soaks into scratches and turns them darker than the rest of the leather? That's what happens everywhere when you sand. The surface of the leather will feel sort of like suede and it will never stop absorbing conditioner. If you put Blackrock on it, you can kind of simulate how it would be if the surface of the leather was still intact. The only other thing you could do is paint the leather which would create a smooth surface.

I've seen mixed reviews on Lincoln and attribute that to some people expecting miracles. Would you mind sharing how effective you found it and how drying it was to the leather, please? I have a couple of cleaners on hand and was intrigued by Lincoln...
This is my first time using Lincoln. I have mixed feelings about this. The bottle comes full so you can't shake it up to get enough foam. I ended up pouring some into a foaming dispenser and using that. Directions just says to use foam and brush the stain with the foam. In my opinion it just spreads the dirt around. As you can see with the dirty paper towels I didn't want to do that so I wanted to remove as much cleaner off the suede to lift the dirt out. I pressed firmly and absorbed as much as I could. Also, it's darn near impossible not to saturate the leather with the cleaner. One upper corner left a stain as it dried. After the whole bag dried and I brushed all the suede. All the leather parts were cleaned and conditioned with Leather CPR.

I'm going to attempt cleaning again with the foam at the lines to see how it goes. I don't know about leaving the leather dry as my bag was pretty dry to begin with. Hope this helps.

It depends. I tried it on the interior of a Dooney AWL and it did nothing. I used it on the pig suede lining of a Gramercy and it was miraculous.

That was a hard rehab and I think the result is great, all things considered. She's been rejuvenated and has character. I can picture her in her glory.

So like many of the other products discussed in this thread.

Thank you both for taking the time to share your experience - I really appreciate it!

Here's the only part where I got the stain.

I did what I could :shrugs: . At least it doesn't look as bad as it did when I got it!
Love it! Oh, the journey that bag has had and the stories it could tell! Please don't take offense, but your bag brought to mind this quote:
"Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely, in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "Holy ****, what a ride!"

Hi guys, I bought this in ebay and I haven’t tried the dunk method at all yet because I am scared of messing up something I am trying to keep.

However this bag has a stain on the inside, I am not sure what it is.

Any tips on removing it? I am worried about it bleeding through to the outside if it is something like ink.

I have not done any rehabbing in the past except applying conditioners so this is new to me.

I have additional photos in case you have other recomendations.
