That must have been the ticking lining I was thinking of but couldn't find it when I searched here. Your bag looks great! Thanks for sharing again.
Did you find that the ticking lining had any shrinkage since it is probably 100% cotton vs the fabric content of other Coach linings when they are dunked?

TY. As with any rehab, I guess it depends on how long the bag is dunked and how long the makeup stain may have set in the fabric.

I've used the regular blue Dawn but will check into the Platinum. If Dawn can clean duck feathers, then it should work for most anything I guess. TY
The Dawn Powerwash is the one in a spray bottle. I would be careful around leather with it tho. I think it might contain alcohol ?

Start conditioning as soon as possible. It is best to start conditioning before the dunked bag is completely dry. Dunking opens up the pores, making the leather more receptive to soaking up the conditioner. Most of the time on the thicker leather vintage bags, dunking and conditioning are all you need to bring back the color. If after several coats of conditioner, you still think it needs some color refreshing, I suggest using just a bit of acrylic paint added to conditioner. It's best in terms of preserving the leather texture.
Thanks you! I already did a first dunk and it's completely dry. I have a conditioner now. Can i do a second dunk and condition before it dies completely?

Hi, I think a second dunk is not necessary if the purpose is only to apply conditioner when wet. I don't think it matters. Not everyone dunks a bag, and a bag can be conditioned dry as well. The dunk is more about cleaning and reshaping.

Continuing our previous messages regarding the cleaning of ticking stripe lining....
I have a 6911 mini wallet which has the ticking lining inside the zippered coin area (on the right in the photo) as well as inside the 3 slots (on the left in the photo). None of the linings pull out and all have general wear dirt. The condition of the leather is great, but I have no idea how to clean the lining without dunking the wallet. How well will the wallet take to being dunked?? Thoughts and suggestions please and thank you.

For little crevice spaces, I might use a soapy toothbrush.

Personally I hate to dunk wallets. They never come out as crisp as they were and the thinner leather doesn't improve with a dunk. I would try a damp rag on the inside linings.

Ok, I encountered a new issue replacing the springlock hardware on a Chrystie Bag. Rather than falling through the hole being a concern, the hole was too small for the top piece to fit into!! I stretched it with a round object in the hole (a sharpie pen) until I could get the top piece to go in. I think it all looks good, though. Those "teeth" marks on the bottom seem less noticeable on the Chrystie.

Both good ideas - thank you! I didn't want to dunk and ruin the wallet, nor have so much soap I couldn't rinse away.
Wonder why the minds at Coach ever thought it was a great idea to line daily use items with cotton ticking???

Hi all,
I recently purchased this coach purse from a thrift store. I've dunked it since it looked pretty grimy. There's a few spots I'm not sure how to fix. I tried searching the thread about the issue but couldn't quite find the right info. After I dunked my purse, I pulled out the lining to dry and bent the leather part of the purse and forgot to adjust. Now it has some crease lines. :( Not sure how to fix that. It also has some staining which appears to be some bleach stains? I'm wondering if some dawn soap and water could get that out. Lastly, there's some wear and tear of the corners of the purse. I couldn't find anything information on how to fix stitching. Hope someone has advice for me thanks!!

wallets can "ripple" if you dunk them. The leather becomes un-flat if that makes any sense. So I never dunk wallets, personally.

I use a toothbrush dunked in oxy clean to brighten up the ticking fabric and then sponge it out.

If there are any holes in the handles, repair them and then you can dunk safely. I've fixed handles with superglue. Leather cement may work. Most of us just use dishwashing liquid like Dawn for a dunk. I might be tempted to use a bit of acetone to see if the black color will come off. It might be nice to restore the bag to its original color. If you want it to be black, I think you're going to have to use dye.
I did a test with some acetone and it totally wrecked the very delicate leather. But it was not 100% acetone, and I may have rubbed a bit hard (possible too much friction caused damage vs. acetone causing damage). I'll upload some pics once I patch test with 100% acetone in case anyone is curious! I am disinclined to dye, as I tend towards trying to have things be in their original state, but it may be the only good option.
