You did great! That's a lovely bag that anybody would be proud to carry. The leather looks like it bounced back really well. How was it removing the turnlock hardware? That is something I have not attempted yet. I have a few bags that @Hyacinth kindly authenticated recently that will be on the way for rehab projects.

Thanks! I almost always remove the hardware because it’s way easier to clean when it’s removed. All you have to do is pry the prongs open. You can use tweezers to do it, just be careful you don’t hit your hands/fingers with the tweezers :).

It’s easy to remove the hardware as @Coachaddict4020 said. Easier to clean the leather and polish the hardware too. Metal polish/cleaners are abrasive and shouldn’t come in contact with the leather. There are some how-to YouTube videos you can watch.

Yup, I'd like to try it maybe on one of these next bags. I've seen the videos by Debi the Restorer, and she shows how to use something flat like a file I believe, and pry up the prongs gently. I'm just afraid I will snap the teeth and I think those replacement parts are not always easy to source.

Somewhere in this thread is a recommendation of a kit sold on Amazon that works great.

I think the rehabbers in this thread work more miracles than anyone at Coach.

So I had ZERO interest in ever owning another Plaza again (anyone remember my Plaza disaster of 2020?) & I was being pretty good about my bag ban, but then, I accidentally found this burgundy small Plaza listed locally! It was a really good price & there were no shipping costs involved! I did the best I could to even out the sun fading & overall Im very happy with it!

A brilliant result, @Coachaddict4020! You do seriously impressive restorations!

Thank you for that reminder, @whateve! For those interested the kit is available in Canada although not currently in the US:

You won’t snap anything. I’ve been removing hardware on dozens of bags for 2 years now. The only time I have to replace a turn lock is when the male twisty part comes to me loose on a bag. You can find cheap replacement sets on buckleguy.com. I’ve ordered from there multiple times & the quality is fantastic.

Wow !! The bag is beautiful and the improvement is especially noticeable when the front flap is lifted, where the original color can be compared to the rehabbed one.
