Well, I guess the verdict’s in - I should leave well enough alone. Given that I have nothing in my wardrobe that’s navy, I might just have to sell it. ☹ Thanks everyone for the input. At least I know I can rehab a bag!!
You don't have to wear a navy bag with navy clothing. You can wear it with anything you would wear with black.

Hello everyone,
I have a lightweights soft satchel that I've tried unsuccessfully to revive. She has been washed, CPR'd, Blackrock'd, but it still is not that great and I'm low on time and energy.
Does anyone know of a shop/person in the Boston MA area who could help or someone on this forum who does this that I could ship her to? She needs more moisturization, brass shined up and the zipper leather pull tab is missing.
Thank you,
H

Lightweights leather is harder to rehab. The colors tended to fade and don't come back very well after rehabbing due to the thinner leather. I've rehabbed a few of these and had to resort to color refreshing.

Hey there! I'm really interested in this Madison Copley bag. However, I don't have much experience restoring any vintage bags. What are the possibilities of this bag? Could I restore the over polished caviar leather parts? Thanks!

In my experience, I would try to find one that is already in great condition. These are hard to restore. I don't know how you would get rid of the dents. The lighter parts might be fixable if you are good at color matching and trompe l'oeil painting, but I wouldn't attempt it unless I got it for an absolute bargain.

I think you made good points, guess I'll let this one go :frown:
Thanks so much!

I think that is rubbing damage from rubbing against the wearer's clothes not due to "over-polishing!"

I would pass on this bag, too. If it were cheap I might give it a try but not at that price. It's a shame because you don't see large granite vintage Madison bags very often.

The only thing you might do with it is dye it black so the rubbed spots are not noticeable. My advice is to do this only if the bag were cheap enough to be a loss if the dye job went wrong.

It might be difficult to dye the caviar leather surface of the vintage Italian Madison Coach bags; I'd take a pass on it.

Hi,
I would like your expert opinion on this bag.
The seller said they are scratches and sent some pictures. I see paint transfer but I am not sure.
If they are scratches, they sure look deep.
Is it easy to rehab a scratched bag?
I have only done simple rehab like dunking and conditioning. Never treat a scratch like that before. I need all the help you can give before I buy this. Thank you in advance.
Edit : I am guessing this is the larger compartment bag. It is very difficult to get vintage coach here and I am willing to try to rehab

It looks like the bag has very bad scratches, perhaps the bag was scratched by a cat. Some of the minor scratches may be minimized by rehab but the bad ones may need color touch-up - and they might still be visible.

@LadaZuri and @LunaSilver have successfully used a "hot spoon method" to repair leather scratches but I don't know if that process would fully repair this bag.

I wouldn't attempt to rehab this bag unless it was very cheap.

Thank you so much Katev for your opinion. The bag is not that cheap, so I will not buy.

There is something wrong with those scratches looking white. Regular scratches on vintage leather, even if they are deep, usually stay the color of the bag.

You ever try to will a bag to dry faster
Also wanted to know, is this taupe? It’s not fully dry, but even dry it’s darker than my taupe bags…B5C7B703-3263-4DD5-A693-E92C51CA6A38.jpegF1C06138-4A67-4F7B-B2A6-02C403A4F1C1.jpegB5022958-ADF0-48EF-A165-9EA0FA795B43.jpeg

on another note, I have a bone colored Watson that had yellowing on the flap…so chalked it up to discoloration and left it alone.I started searching for posts about color refresh on bone, and saw where someone had a bone station bag and used alcohol on the stain. Whatdya know, the yellowing came right off the bag! So excited! I have a bone colored pocket purse that has some yellowing, can’t wait to get to it…here’s some photos prior to alcohol, hard to capture the yellowing, looks like a dirty spot here instead
