Thank you! It's actually in really nice condition (structurally.) I have some other vintage basic made in NY City bags, and they show much more wear. Probably, when the "ink accident" happened the original owner stopped using the bag.
How does the inside look? Did you dye the inside also? I am asking because I am having trouble deciding if I should dye my ink stained Anderson or do the tea roses. My hang up is spending the money on the tea roses to cover the stain on the outside but the inside will still look like a hot mess. I’m so indecisive lol

I did not dye the inside. Here's a photo. It was a dark gray-ish suede anyway, so it doesn't look bad to me with a black exterior. You can still see the ink stain on the inside, but it's not bothering me. I didn't mess with the fabric around the zipper, because the gray seems close enough.

That's because anything decent they sell online these days. It isn't worth going to most Goodwill stores any more.
I thought the same thing for years and avoided Goodwills. My Step Mother took me to a few I hadn’t been to, and I’ve found some great vintage Coach bags. It just depends on the particular Goodwill. Some put them online, some sell them for high prices, while others put them out with the other bags for $2-$19.99.

Hi everyone! I'm in the process of rehabbing my very first bag - a red Devon 9908. The inside cover has some ballpoint pen marks -- is there any way to get these out? They're not terrible, but as I'm sure you could imagine, it would feel so satisfying to get this beauty up to near perfect! I tried searching the forum but didn't come up with anything.
Thanks!

Try sanding it. Don't use a dark sandpaper as some of these transfer color. I would use a sanding block.

Please let us know what you decide...I'd love to see how it comes out. :)

To give credit where it's due, I should have mentioned that I first heard about using Press n Seal to protect leather while polishing hardware from @Jessi319.
Unfortunately we dont have this brand in NZ...and our cling wrap most of the time doesnt even stick to itself.
I tried this technique and couldnt get it to work as what I have to work with just doesnt....um...work.
Might try agian if I can find a better product.

I'm happy with how this rehab came out. :) Here are the before pics: https://shopgoodwill.com/item/136092947

Gray/brown, with dark blue ink spots on the front and on the bottom. During the dunk, they spread worse! Now, it's really a beautiful bag, and I'm adding it to my personal collection. :) I studied up on best leather dye products, and Kiwi brand got great marks. I think it worked great to dye it black, super easy to do.
Looks wonderful! Beautiful work!!

@ConnieinSeattle the bag looks fantastic, you did a wonderful job with the dye - and you are brave!

@pammbw "How does the inside look?" was also my first thought! Many years ago, I found a putty tote that was badly stained and I felt that it was beyond my novice skills as a rehabber.

I decided that the only option was to dye the bag but I was afraid to attempt to do it myself. I took it to a cobbler and he did a nice job dying it black but he didn't dye the inside so it was still nasty and stained. I tried to ignore the stains but they bothered me so I got rid of the bag. Now that I see the beautiful job that @ConnieinSeattle did on her Basic Bag, I wish that I had tried to dye it myself, both inside and out! Or maybe just kept the putty color and tried to do a better job on the rehab!

The link below shows before and after pics of that poor, ill-fated putty tote!

I’m finally getting around to rehabbing my vintage bags. Sadly, some of my bags are missing their hangtags. I know Coach used to mail the generic metal ones but stopped at the start of the pandemic. I was wondering if anyone had any luck recently getting replacement tags.
