Hey guys!

I just wanted to share something with everyone. I’ve just discovered electroplating for these older bags that have brass plated hardware on which the brass has worn off. I got mine on Amazon but they have a website too. It’s Caswells plug n plate. Here’s some pics of the first project I did on hardware from a members bag.
This is the set up which is a non arsenic process

This is the progression, a before, a polished down to the nickel mid process, and finished

and here are the finished open rings

I’ve also started experimenting with metal still attached to the leather, like this kisslock frame on a Watermelon. I only just started to do the left corner there, but you can see the gold starting to show and it didn’t burn the leather.

It’s kind of like painting in you have to keep moving the liquid so there is an “art” to it. The kit is only around $70 and mine is lasting far past expiration date.
Just something fun for you guys to try and more tools in your box!!
I admire your pioneer spirit and your dedication to the craft! I think you might have a new business there.

I just became willing to use Cape Cod polishing cloths. Go for it!

Anyone got a putty and a butterscotch vintage that they can photo together to show the difference in colour. Starting to think my Kent is butterscotch but its still wet.
Kent didn't come in putty as far as I know. If it is similar to BT but more yellow I bet it is butterscotch. Look at this picture, BT on the left on the Murphy, and the Kent on the right in butterscotch.9930 murphy 9907 logan 9918 lenox 9927 willis 9916 kent 9917 shelton butterscotch bordeaux st...jpeg

yes I'm moving towards it being butterscotch...but I dont think the hangtag is correct for it...completely different colour.

Good evening all,

Hope everyone's well. I was wondering if dunking this duffle sac would restore the sunbleached fading thats visible on one side of the bag. Its not bad, but it bothers me. Dunk or just leave it alone?
Thank you!

The 1st pic is normal color 2nd pic faded side, 3rd, side view where it's obvious.

I don't think that it is sun-bleached fading, my impression is that it is just a natural variation in the leather that becomes more obvious as the bag ages, wrinkles, and the leather dries out - but if someone has more information please educate me!

Dunking probably won't make it disappear but it should improve the overall look of the whole bag and perhaps make the lines less obvious - or at least you may find them less annoying. If they bother you now then I think you should dunk it and see if that helps. Or you could just try moisturizing and see if that is an improvement, you could always give it a bath later.

Below are pics of a Green Murphy Bag 9930 that I dunked and rehabbed. As you can see in the before picture, there are some of those wavy lines on the left side of the bag (there are also a few on the lower front but not as obvious). The rehab didn't make the lines disappear but I think that the bag looks better and the lines appear natural IMO.

Sounds great! Because I dont want to unnecessarily dunk it. BTW I'm not referring to the lines, rather the lighter_ faded color, apearance of one side vs the other. In that case, will dunking help? Because the picture you see is with a couple coats of cpr.
Thank you again!

Dunking, conditioning and then applying Black Rocks may darken the color (just a little bit) of the bag and make the appearance look more even. I would dunk it but it’s up to you. It’s a very pretty bag!

Ok thank you! I dont have Black Rocks, but I'll order some .

I use Black Rocks frequently and I think it’s a great product but be careful not to apply it too heavily, because it gets sticky and stays sticky for awhile.

Apply BR lightly, wipe off the excess, rub it in, let it sit for awhile (several hours or overnight) and then buff with a horsehair brush. Good luck!

Dumb question: what do you use to apply?
