Am I the only one that carries something classy to manage my pens? Take a look at my Bleecker Pencil Case in Sharkskin/Natural 64544 BQP, it's a beauty!

Being a bit OCD, I'd have the pen in a ziplock inside that beautiful Bleeker Pencil Case!

Oh my goodness!!! How gorgeous, Narnanz!!!!

Rayrob87,

Thank you so much for this! I'm thinking of getting some black leather dye and applying it to the piping. I really don't feel comfortable removing the piping myself. I'm not that confident of a rehabber yet!

Please keep us in the loop as you restore the piping!

Nat

Ya I stop at piping. That’s for a pro. The trim might be too but I’m gonna try first. Piping is harder because you have to completely deconstruct the bag to access those seams and replace with new piping. I usually just glue mine the best I can and cover with my acrylic conditioner mix.

Trust me y’all will hear all about my Patty. She is one stubborn lady! It will be a good day when I have her done.

Random question for the group - for folks who use a Dremel or similar rotary tool to polish hardware, what’s your technique?

You all convinced me to go from polishing only to removing hardware/steel wool/polishing, and I can’t go back! But the steel wool step is killing me, and it’s holding me up. I’m looking to use a Dremel to help with the challenge of that detail work, but I’m not sure how to translate my current steps into steps with this tool and it’s various attachments. Any thoughts or guidance welcome!

I tried dremeling for the first time and loved it. I bought a jewelry polishing kit but so far have only used the little wire brush. It's great at removing the clear coat and shining up the brass.
I had thought I would have to be really careful but honestly it's similar to steel wool and still takes me several passes to get a good shine. I like that because I was afraid the Dremel would be so powerful that it would be easy to damage the brass- not so with the attachments I am using. I still do a final polish with a cloth but after the Dremel it's just a finishing touch.

Patricia’s Legacy saga continues. Below she is completely dry. Like bone dry. I tried painting her and I hated it. Did not look good at all. So I ordered some refresh for British tan and Mahogany. There is a chance the spots won’t take the BT and will come through so if that happens I’ll have to make her a different color all together. Anyway, she has been sanitized, dunked, wiped with everything under the sun and got a nice sun bath. I was feeling quite defeated TBH but we will see how a refresh turns out. That is most likely mold spots that have stained the bag. I feel bad for her really. Stayed tuned for part 3 or part 50 at this point…

Thank you! I was a little nervous, but I started experimenting today and arrived at exactly the same place - the little wire brush did the trick for me, moving gently in one direction and then crosswise in another. I got GREAT shine even in hard-to-reach places, and I finished with Cape Cod cloth and buffing like normal. I’ll share pics of a few now-finished projects later!

I don’t think I saved any time (maybe I will as I get more comfortable), but… my hands and fingertips weren’t screaming when I was done, and it was significantly less messy than steel wool! I’m excited to keep trying this!

Well, I repainted yet another Cassie style, this time the camera bag. It's original color was Taupe. I deglazed it & used Angelus black matte paint. I really loved the look. Then I added the Angelus MATTE finisher & it came out too shiny (at least for my liking). I wished I hadn't put the finisher on & just conditioned & Apple Guarded it. If this is matte, I'd hate to see satin or glossy. But, it's all a learning process.
Do I really need a finisher? I love the Angelus paint & nothing rubs off after painting...I guess I felt it was better to finish than not. Any way to soften the shine at this point? TIA!

I like the black with silver hardware. Do you think you could use another thin coat of paint to reduce the shine?
