Thanks for the advice!

Just finished washing it with dawn (added a little white distilled vinegar too since it definitely smelled like a vintage coach bag :giggle:) and it's nice and stuffed and ready to be conditioned! Looks like the stain came out! Hopefully the stain will still be out when it dries haha

In regards to the corners, they definitely look a little better after washing, but I may have to wait for it to dry to better assess. I guess I'm leaning more to a dye or some sort of leather color retouching product to match the texture of the leather more. I assumed acrylic paint would feel/look different and be more likely to crack, especially since its around the corners. I'm not looking to redye the whole bag, definitely would prefer to just touch up the parts that need it.

Attaching some progress pics below

I've never dyed a bag so I can't advise about products or techniques.

FYI, below are before and after pictures of a watermelon Ellis Tote 33961 that I once rehabbed. You will see pictures of the worn, dirty corners both before and after washing and using acrylic craft paint to touch them up.

I should have mentioned that I mix the hobby paint with Leather CPR (or other cream conditioner) so that it absorbs into the leather well; I will amend my post above. I've never encountered problems with cracking or texture using this method.

I've just finished rehabbing 3 bags. Actually, I completed the leather portion of the rehabs a couple of weeks ago but I procrastinated about polishing the metal because I hate polishing brass!

They were very straight-forward rehabs. I just gave them each a bath, stuffed them, conditioned, buffed the leather and polished the hardware. The hangtags on 2 of the bags had separated so I had to glue them back together and that's all there was to it!

I purchased all of them at local thrift stores and they've been in my rehab pile for quite awhile!

I second katev's comments about using acrylic paint. In my opinion, it is the least invasive approach. As long as you mix it with conditioner, it won't change the texture of the leather.

Wow that bag turned out great Katev! I'm gonna give it a try :) Thanks for the help guys! Hopefully I can find a color that matches the bag. Do you guys recommend any specific brand of acrylic paint?

I usually pay more attention to the shade of color than the brand of acrylic paint. I usually bring the hangtag with me (careful not to lose it!) and then I select a few bottles that, from the labels, look as though they might match. The store management might not approve but I shake up each bottle and unscrew the cap to see the actual color of the paint before I make my final selection.

All look amazing! I can't wait for the magical day when the straightforward process you describe is straightforward for me as well and I don't somehow oversaturate with conditioner, screw up putting hardware back on or turn my hangtag rock hard from expired glue! :(

I've had disappointments also, I just don't post those!

I found a Patti, quite a ways back, also black, 2001, at thrift shop for $20 too. Must be the universal thrift find

Thanks! This is my first black Patricia's Legacy 9951 but I rehabbed one in Mahagony and one in British Tan many years ago, see link below. They were both very inexpensive thrift store finds. The mahagony one only cost $4.50 but it needed cobbler repairs that cost $28.

We need a full collection photograph from you katev!!!

I decided to redunk and condition this beautiful Small Side Pack to send to a friend who has had a difficult few months.
The redunking was because I'd been using her and found a new stain, and I also wanted to work on an old dime-sized stain on the back.

I used the usual method of washing in Dawn/vinegar, conditioning while wet and drying with Leather CPR, and finishing with Renapur heated on the sponge. The hardware was polished with a combination of 0000 steel wool, Mother's Mag and Aluminium and Cape Cod Polishing Cloths.

The new stain was likely a water mark and completely disappeared.

The original dime-sized mark is still there, but very faint. It is on the lower left side. I don't think it detracts from her overall beauty.

Thanks for looking! :flowers:
