Hi Everyone,

Before/After pictures of today’s finished rehab...a 1992 Jackson Bucket bag in forest green. Part of the Camden Classics range, she is the first Jackson Bucket I’ve found to date.

She is in gorgeous condition...just needed a light dunk, CPR and Blackrock top coat. Her hardware was given a quick once-over with fine wire wool.

Hard to capture her beautiful rich green colour...but she’s scrumptious!

Take care

Zoe xx

What a lovely bag! I LOVE the hardware and the adjustable strap design.

Great rehab, thanks for sharing!

I love the character lines on the back of your camel Willis! You did an awesome job restoring her, too! Thank you so much for posting your rehabs, @katev! They are informative and oh so inspiring! :hugs:

I've almost finished my jade Kimball! The colour is glorious and accurately depicted in these outdoor, rainy day photos for those of you who haven't seen jade in person. "Jade" was in very good shape, but had some minor colour loss all around the piping.

AFTER: Mostly restored with CPR and heated Renapur on the sponge... I will do some Blackrocks now to complete the process:

No hangtag, but she's exquisite with the stunning tearose from @LunaSilver!!! :hugs:

Thanks for looking! :flowers:
Did you use your goat hair brush on this girlie? She looks amazing!!!!!

Anyone ever dunk this kind of wallet? I washed it with leather cleaner and conditioned it a few times, but I think it could look better.

I have both dunked and not dunked wallets. I’ve seen @whateve advise against it, as the leather is thinner and won’t plump like the thicker full-grain cowhide of the vintage bags (I’m sure she’ll weigh in to clarify if I’m misrepresenting!). I believe most of the older wallets like this are buffalo leather.

What remaining issues are you trying to solve for? My experience has been if you have any concerns about dryness, it’s worth NOT dunking wallets. I’ve had 1 or 2 small leather items that unexpectedly cracked at the corners/bend points when drying. I like to get my vintage items clean, but I balance that against the risk of cracks, and that color loss/wear/darkening may never come out regardless.

There aren't really any issues. I was just hoping it'd plump up, but I guess there's no point if that doesn't happen. Thank you! Your answer is just what I needed. :D

I believe this specific wallet is half thickness glovetanned and not water buffalo, but I would advise against dunking in either case. It will definitely warp the wallet in my experience. Have you tried buffing it with a horse hair brush or something similar? That can really make it “pop”!

I usually detail my wallets with diluted lexol and q tips, to get into all the nooks and crannies. Then I’ll condition and buff and polish any brass that may be on it.

Good luck!!

Thank you, @Busykitty! I've learned so much on this thread in the past 10 months and a lot was from you! :hugs: I haven't used the goat's hair brush (available from Amazon) yet... just a very soft microfiber cloth. Will finish up with Blackrocks to maximize the level of conditioning and protection on the whole bag, particularly the piping, and return with photos of the final result (post goat's hair brush buffing)! :flowers:

Nice! I see you also made good use of a sunny bank holiday:biggrin:

May I ask where you order your CPR and BR?
Hi fellow UK Coachie @americandreaming

I imported the BR direct from BR themselves - cost me as much in shipping & customs as the price of the jar, but I bought the biggest one possible which will last me for a long time I’m sure. Previously I was using Renapur, which is great, but just not quite a good as BR.

My CPR, I snagged a double package on Amazon from a UK seller pre-lockdown #1, but I’ve never found it again in the UK...may have to import some again.

Maybe we should set up a joint order and share the import costs...?!

Awww thank you @shannastory - she is a beauty, and I’m torn, having sold my bottle green Kent to a collector in NYC earlier this month, I’m kind of struggling with letting go...

I've had mixed luck with dunking wallets. If I can avoid it then I don't dunk, but some wallets are so dirty and beat up that I still don't want to carry them after surface cleaning - so I go ahead and give them a bath.

Some come out well but others get a little stretched out. I have found that inserting plastic cards (gift cards, reward cards, expired credit cards, etc.) into the slots while the wallet is drying may help it to retain the proper shape.
