Oh dear... I think this Murphy might be navy blue now that it's clean, which is cool. But I think I can't sell it. Look at that cut! I don't know how I didn't see it before. It's a very clean cut, so maybe it was glued well, which I will attempt myself, but regardless, that's some bad damage. Dang it!
Why can't you sell it? Because of the cut?

Nice move.

Speaking of leather glue, I had a little heartbreak: turns out none of the leather glues or superglues in my home work! They're all dried out or just not adhesive anymore. And I ruined my BT hangtag because it hardened the two pieces but didn't actually stick them together. Not sure what to do with it now other than to chuck them away, lol.
Just find out what the solvent is for the type of glue you used (it might even be water if it’s the white leather glue) Just soak it in a bit of the solvent then give it a wash and condition. It’s worth a try.

In general, yes.

So the black and blue sections are chipping off the reveal the base colour of brown underneath and the white is just dirty? Please clarify what is on the white part.
The white is chipping, too. In two places. It's also "scuffed" in one place and the brown is starting to show through there. What's on it is unknown, some looks like ink. (I got this bag secondhand.) It's a beautiful bag, and the brown leather is perfect throughout. It's just these color stripes that are in bad shape. Alternatively, is there a way to remove the color stripes completely? I'd be happy with a solid brown bag.

Yeah looks like biro marks to me for which I think, if it isn't coming out with washing up liquid and water, Coach cleaner won't do anything.

AFAIK Coach's polished pebble leather is embossed and then painted. So I can't think of a way you could remove the stripes only and not the brown underneath too. Not to mention there is evidence that friction causes the embossment to smooth out into a fuzzy greyness. The only thing I can think of is to repaint the whole bag or wear it backwards so the scuffed side is not visible.

So cool! Can I ask, how did you remove your D-rings? I see there is a line in one side for a small Phillips head screwdriver, but mine are either super tight or I'm doing something wrong. Is it like a safety top where I need to push first or is it just a workout?
(Basically, is the D-ring is either smarter than me or am I a weakling? Not sure which will bum me out more. :P)
Oh, it was a workout. Just regular screws though. I had to kinda wrap my fingers around the base because the screwdriver kept slipping out before I could get it at all loose. I almost scratched the leather a couple times. Even after I got it to turn, I still had to work at it. They're super tight! Those little husky mini screwdrivers helped.

Also, one was in there so tight I really had to torque it, and I kinda chipped the top of the brass screw a little bit. I'll have to sand it back down. So, good luck! You can do it!

If you ever need a replacement D-Ring you can buy them at a good price from Buckleguy and you can get just a single ring if that's all you need. He also has them in antique brass: https://www.buckleguy.com/2014-3-4-natural-brass-d-ring-solid-brass-ll/

I rehabbed this BT Willis that was missing a D-Ring and the item from Buckleguy was a perfect match:

There are phillips head screws in your willis? I think that the most recent willis I rehabbed had regular screws and I used a straight-edge screwdriver. Has coach varied the hardware used in willis bags over the years?

I also used a flat head screwdriver.

I've also gotten some hardware from Buckleguy. Really good quality! Thanks for the heads up though. I didn't know he had those. I might have to get one. ;)

I think the bag looks fantastic as it is. Love the wrinkles on the back. The color is beautiful. And what you did with the brass is great. I love to think about the miles this bag earned over the years and the flight attendant who carried it. I would absolutely wear this with pride as is. Wouldn't it be great to carry this on an airplane?
Thank you so much, like @Hyacinth said, imagine the stories she could tell us!

I haven’t sold her yet, in truth I probably need to man up and wear her...

Thanks again to everyone for the love and support shown.

Hi there,

I just received this Rambler in the mail. It actually looks a bit better in person. Yaaay! I have been combing the threads and have a general plan however I have a few questions before I get started that I am hoping someone can help me with.
1. Why are folks applying CPR before a dunk? I thought the dunk was to get stuff out and clean it away, my worry is that I would impede that, but clearly this bag is dry. Thoughts?
2. On a few you tube videos I have watched people are polishing the brass after the dunk. I keep wanting them to do it before to soak off any Brasso residue etc. Am I thinking about this wrong or just personal preference.
3. Lastly, what color would you say this bag is?

So nervous to get started as I don't want to mess it up! Open and grateful for any and all feedback or pointers!IMG_0699.jpgIMG_0696.jpgIMG_0698.jpg
