Agreed, it’s a lovely bag. I’m also probably not the savviest at spotting all the before-it-got-to-me alterations, but wanted to comment that I’ve seen the same absence of color on the interior close to the bottom seams of many authentic, original-color bags, in case that was cause for concern. I also notice the color of the suede on the inside of the side loop for the brass hardware - it seems to be the same purple as the inside of the bag. That detail hints (to me at least) at the color being original.

Without being able to feel it, I didn’t notice anything in your pictures that screams “aftermarket color”...which at the very least suggests that if it IS, it seems to have been well done.

Other opinions welcome of course!
Thanks for your thoughts! I agree :)

Happy Mother’s Day to those whose countries do that today/this weekend, and to those here who are mothers and to the amazing women who raised the wonderful folks here! And also to the moms who carried these lovely old bags before us.

My Mother’s Day ask of my spouse? A few hours alone in my own house  He’s out with the kids, and I’m digging into my latest cohort of rehabs. Getting better about taking “before” pics - here are a few I’m prepping!

If someone is looking for a summery beachy bag then you may be interested in this Pierre Le Tan Umbrella Tote (14962) that is listed on Shopgoodwill, see link below. Right now it is $30 with no bids. It's intact but dirty but I think it would clean up well with a bath or a trip through the washer.

I have this bag and I love it, you can see a picture of mine below:

@pammbw how's the City going? Were the products any good?

I've been balking at dropping my bag off at the cobbler's. I was hand-washing my cloths today before putting them into the washing machine for a spin and the fairy removed a lot of the shoe polish from the cloths. Now why won't it do that with my bag? Lol. Think I'll stick the bag in for a spin as well. Nothing to lose.

Update: I decided against spinning it because it wouldn't actually remove the polish - that only comes off with actually rubbing it off. It doesn't soak, rinse or scrub off in water and it's almost completely waterproof. The leather only saturated with water from the underside.

I needed something strong enough to penetrate the dubbin-type polish (as identified by the leather professionals on the leatherworker website) and they recommended I use turpentine.

I had seen washing powder be suggested and decided to start with that which we already have before purchasing turps (had already tried acetone, non-acetone nail polish remover, Saphir Renomat, fairy etc) and it was the best out of everything I've tried! I've been slathering powder mixed into a paste onto the bag, leaving it for a while, then rubbing with a cloth and it removes so much more. It saturated the cloth with thick black goo whereas any other chemical I tried barely greyed the cloths.

Unfortunately we were already running out of it so I'm completely out of washing powder now. When I can, I'm going to pick up a few packs of the cheapest washing powders I can find and get to work. I've barely made a dent but seeing the goo come off was so motivating! The process was easier on damp rather than soaked leather so I won't dunk when I repeat the process - I'll just lay the paste right on.

@pammbw just thought I'd tag you to let you know.

Oh
...interesting...wonder if that would have worked better for my painted bag...acetone just left marks on the leather and ots now hard.

You could also try TSP. I think I used that to remove some dye but it may have bleached it out.

There's a black Made in the US Legacy Zip 9966 on Mercari listed for $12 plus $8 shipping. It's worn but appears intact (except it seems to be missing the hangtag) see link below. I'm not an authenticator but it looks okay to me.

Edited: Nevermind, it's already sold, did someone from TPF get it?
