Ladies - I have a couple of rehab questions.
This is not for a
Coach (although I do own several vintage Coaches, have been lucky enough that none of them needed any work!) but for a vintage Dooney I just picked up.
First, inside the bag, it has some weird hardened substance in a few spots - either glue or super ancient candy, or who knows what. Is there a way to remove something like this?
Second, my more pressing concern, is that about 3/4" of piping on the lower corner needs repair. It has worn through and the plastic tubing inside is showing through. The leather is present around the edges but not enough to re-glue it down. It is mostly gone and just the bare plastic piping. I want to stabilize it, make it look better, and prevent any further damage. Any suggestions for fixing this DIY? I have read some about possibly patching it with hot glue or a leather filler to stabilize it.
Also please note that I have never rehabbed a bag and am scared to death of dunking. I also have a husband who insists I *not* submerge a bag in water.

I'm open to the idea, though. I have done a fair amount of leather care & product application, just not a full-on rehab. Therefore I will need detailed step-by-step help with this.
Thanks in advance!!
