Wondering if it is possible to use color safe bleach power( mix into paste) to bleach lighter the dark stain of your red Chrystie first. Then mix cpr and matching red acrylic paint, use COSMETIC SPONGE to apply thinly over the stain area and feathered into surrounding area. May need several layers. Each layer applied do not disturbed it by trying to adjust the spreading while wet. I found paint brush applied color don't blend in well, usually have a different sheen after drying.
That would be an option. Maybe in a while if I get another burst of motivation I may try that. I think it would be easier to cover up a light spot than a dark one.

I do admit, I was not very good at letting the application dry very long before I was making a determination on acceptability. I think a big part of it was that the two bags sat over on the table too long. Since weekends are the only time I have to devote to them, they sat over there two or three weeks along with the mess of paint and paper plates and toothpicks and qtips and yes I did try cosmetic sponges cut up into different shapes and sizes, and I eventually got tired of it and got over the desire to fix them. I don't have a good workspace, and there is nowhere in my house that has good, even lighting. Other than temporary impatience, there is no rush to do anything. So I will take any and all suggestions and sit on them for awhile before deciding what to do!

Any photos of stain painting success stories would be great to see, as well as fun applique results too, for inspiration.

I bought this wallet (top left) to match these three British tan purses but it is actually a shinier, more delicate leather and doesn’t match at all! What type of leather would you call either of these and would 3AC70EF0-C781-4A28-B462-1581167D804B.jpeg the dunk method ruin it or is there a better way to clean it? Thanks!

Looks like Water Buffalo leather! I have a pen case, passport wallet, a men's breast pocket wallet, and a pocket size planner that were made from that type of leather. I didn't dunk these SLGs, just used Leather CPR to clean them up, conditioned with Leather Therapy, and finished with Blackrocks.

Edit to add a pic! Minus my passport cover because it’s locked up in our safe.

Nice wallet, I think it looks good with your vintage bags! Success with rehabbing wallets is inconsistent in my experience. I have dunked some that turned out very well and others that got stretched-out and wavy but I've never tried rehabbing a buffalo leather wallet. I would first do surface cleaning as @MrsGAM suggests and I would only try dunking if it was dirty and couldn't be carried. Good luck!

I just finished a rehab but I have a new "favorite bag"! I love my black XL Ergo Tote with gold hardware. It was made in 2006 and the style number is 10744. I was surprised at how big this bag is, but she's an Ergo so she sits comfortably and securely on my shoulder.

It was a difficult rehab because the bag was really filthy, the auction pictures were concerning but it was much worse in reality - especially the interior. That beautiful Legacy Stripe Lining was disgusting. I paid $45 for it and that was too much considering the condition, but at least in came with the dustbag, I can't believe anyone cared enough about this poor bag to use the dustbag.

To rehab the XL Ergo Tote I washed, scrubbed, and laundered. Then I washed, scrubbed and laundered again - and again! I threw caution to the winds and used every solvent and spot cleaning agent in my cupboard.

There were a few stains on the lining that I was able to lighten but I just couldn't eliminate. This great bag withstood all that rough treatment very well and she looks much better. She will never be perfect but at least she is clean and I am comfortable carrying her.

The Before and After pictures are below. I thought that Renapur did a really nice job restoring the finish. I actually had an event to attend this afternoon and I carried my new-to-me XL Ergo Tote. I went to a socially distant Birthday Party. We all sat around on the driveway and kept an appropriate distance, it was nice!

Before XL Ergo Tote 10744 (why would anyone ever treat a beautiful and expensive bag like this?)

I got this same Ergo about the same time as you and the lining was disgusting. I was able to get most of the ink out and most of the stains. I think the turnlock has a coating on it. Did yours? Yours looks really shiny? Luckily the leather was in really nice condition. I was surprised at the blue thread used in the inside!

This is not exactly the advice you were looking for but I know from experience you can cut through the rings with bolt cutters. Of course I work at a middle school where kids think it funny to put their gym padlock on other people’s hall lockers with built in locks so they can’t get in and so bolt cutters are accessible to me.

I removed the rings on my Court and replaced them with Willis style d-rings

Crossbody is really a newer thing, at least in the US, so those older bags probably were meant for the shoulder.
I wonder why though, was it considered improper because of boobage or didn't dresses allow for lifting of arms or what? I find shoulder carry extremely uncomfortable unless it's a tote.

The bolt cutter is exactly the advice I was looking for! The rings are super thick though, not comparable to the ones on the Blazer or City. Then again, your students' padlocks are probably also thicker than the diary type. Our janitor might have something suitable in his arsenal.
I might get a cobbler's opinion regardless. If they can do a good job and don't ask for a fortune, I'm willing to modify the Blazer and City as well, cause this realllly bugs me for some reason and I'm not planning on reselling.
There goes my plan of getting a Taylor, I guess.

Never noticed that. Most vintage coach strap is too short to wear crossbody for me, I prefer bags hang below the hip.
Thanks for posting this, when looking for a bag, I now know to watch for stretched strap loops.
Yes, I'm exactly the opposite. I prefer short-short crossbodies to wear in front, like almost at my waist. That probably contributes to the problem as the angle can be pretty severe I guess, depending on the depth of the bag.
I'm happy to feed everyone's OCD tendencies!

I have my bottle green city that has had this happen badly. But I love the bag and see it as its history. No idea what to do to stop it so cant help....I do understand the frustration
I hate that this bugs me so much. I guess I'm also terrified of it getting worse over time. Maybe I'll just watch out for signs of worsening and take measures only when it happens.
But urgh, the sight of it really irks me. I'm super laid back about scratches and stains and such, but those square rings get me all worked up.

I was also surprised but the blue thread inside, that got me thinking that it might be Navy and the color had bled during washing, but the outside thread stayed white!

Yes, the turnlock had some kind of coating. I worked on it with Wenol to get that coating off and then I finished with Cape Cope cloths.

I am carrying my XL Ergo Tote right now and I love it!

My BT Derby arrived. It is smaller than I expected. I planned it for use as a small bag with few items but had hoped it could be an everyday bag too. Not an everyday for me it seems. She is kind of stiff, had verdigris at the lock, a mark on her bottom lining which also needs gluing, parts of the strap are nearly black and it has a slight odor of perfume

I wiped her down with vinegar and used some on the brass to take the green off. She is hanging in the garage to air. Anticipating dunking on Monday.

Should I glue before or after the dunk?

@whateve I think you recommend the puff paint for edge fix on straps. I can't find the post.
If it wasn't you, maybe you can still help?
I got the puff paint, put a coat on, it covered the "naked" areas really well and matched the factory edge coat. Is there any tricks to get it to look as close to the actual edge coat? Mine is more flat as where you know the factory one is more "domed?". Maybe I didn't add enough? There's still a dip where the factory edge coat stops and the puff paint starts.
Just having a hard time. Obviously. Lol
