So I have this little Chester with what I’m assuming is a burn that did not come up in the bath. View attachment 4645951

Thanks to @houseof999 I have an idea to cover it up. Patches....

I’m leaning towards the flowers but wondering what you all think? I’m planing on attaching with brass snaps on the bag and patch so it can be removed to clean or condition the bag. Think I’ll be using Rexy for my Ritchie with a stain on the front. He doesn’t quite fit right on the burn mark.
I vote for flowers too

Thought I’d join the purple rambler club! Finally finished mine, had to get a replacement for the crappy Chinese turnlock that I would have left alone had I known. Took it off not thinking it was going to be a very thinly plated nickel on brass and would crack and peel at the bends. image.jpg image.jpg
After a horrible experience with silver-coach on ebay getting a bogus nickel replacement, I had to resort to poaching from another bag to get the same quality.
FYI silver coach is extremely unprofessional and wanted to argue with me over their cheep mirror finish nickel turnlock when I wanted to return. I’m sure the brass replacement they sell is fine but the nickel is NOT satin finish, does NOT have the lacquer coating and will not match most vintage bags hardware. I wanted to make sure you all knew what an awful experience I had with this seller. Too bad they seem to be on of the only games in town. To my recollection, coach never made any vintage bags with mirror finish nickel turnlocks, or did they? Am I THAT crazy lady? ;)

I'm so sorry to hear of your experience. I've never ordered from them so I had no idea.

How do you know when you have done enough coats of CPR? Is there such a thing? I am having trouble getting a couple of dunked bags back to that super buttery soft feel. Should I just keep doing CPR? I haven't done a coat of Blackrock yet, I have been trying to get back to buttery soft and smooth before I put that on.

Are you using a horsehair brush in between coats when dry? I find that helps a lot in attaining that butter soft feel! The blackrock will help as well. Most say to keep applying cpr until it won’t soak in anymore but I have gotten there with some of my lighter colored bags and the streaking from where the cpr didn’t soak in almost bleaches the area slightly. I go by feel now and how fast the leather is sucking it up. When it feels and looks butter soft I stop.

Yes, I find the brushing really helps. For very stiff bags, I'll also brush the suede on the inside with a stiff brush.

I like the flowers because the shape melds with the bag. If the skull were facing the other way I would like it best.

Well, I have used a horsehair brush after some coats, but not all. I didn't really see a difference in results between the coats I did use the brush after and the ones I didn't. Maybe it's a cumulative effect? Do I wait for the CPR to dry completely before brushing it? Should I make sure to not do anymore CPR after a coat of Blackrock? Do I do only one coat of Blackrock. Sorry so many questions. I had a feeling it would get a little tricky when I got to the Blackrock phase.

I've used the brush on the suede a little bit and it did help soften it a little. I'll be sure to not forget to do that before I consider a bag finished. OK I brush between coats and see if that makes a difference. I just am not getting my bags to look so brand new like some of the rehabbers here do, not in shaping nor in color evenness.

Photos are a bit misleading...some of mine might look brand new in the picture but up close and personal they have marks and creases and my green city is nowhere near as soft as I want.
Take a photo and see what it looks like on here...to us it might look fabulous.

Not all bags get really soft. Some of the structured styles are meant to have stiffer leather. I can't always shape bags as well as I'd like. Some styles are very difficult. If the bag is already wrinkled, I haven't been very successful in getting rid of the wrinkles. Some smaller bags look closer to new because they generally weren't used very much before we got them.

Have you guys found strange things inside your bags as you work on them? I’m working on a bag right now and discovered a car key attached to the hang tag in one of the pockets. It was actually listed as having no hang tag so I was actually quite happy to have found it.
I've found quite a few hangtags in the pockets. Once I found a ring. I've found coins. Once I bought a wallet with more money inside than what I paid for it. Sometimes there are gross things inside, like gum.
