Have you guys found strange things inside your bags as you work on them? I’m working on a bag right now and discovered a car key attached to the hang tag in one of the pockets. It was actually listed as having no hang tag so I was actually quite happy to have found it.

I have also found hangtags inside of bags, always a pleasant surprise. I once rehabbed a red NYC convertible clutch that was afflicted with verdigris green metal disease. I found an old penny in the pocket and it was also green and furry!

So I have this little Chester with what I’m assuming is a burn that did not come up in the bath. View attachment 4645951

Thanks to @houseof999 I have an idea to cover it up. Patches....

I’m leaning towards the flowers but wondering what you all think? I’m planing on attaching with brass snaps on the bag and patch so it can be removed to clean or condition the bag. Think I’ll be using Rexy for my Ritchie with a stain on the front. He doesn’t quite fit right on the burn mark.

Flowers look best, I agree!

I've heard the superstition, one should never sell an empty purse or wallet, but when I find tooth picks, they can leave those at home. Mostly its pens and pencils. I did found a brand new hangtag in my yellow regina, one earring in another, a tampax (new and wrapped) lol. I like finding the little inspected by papers, and fortune cookie fortunes.

I’ve found a nail file, tooth picks, and a band aid. Actually a band aid twice, once in the wrapper and once ... not!

I’ve also found coins that were from the same year a bag was made which made me happy in a weird way. It was like a little time capsule.

I’ve found a few inspected by tags! I like those too and try to keep them with the bag :)

Photos are a bit misleading...some of mine might look brand new in the picture but up close and personal they have marks and creases and my green city is nowhere near as soft as I want.
Take a photo and see what it looks like on here...to us it might look fabulous.

I agree with this. Sometimes a bag will show less blemishes in a photo and other times marks I can’t see in person show up in pics!

I only started rehabbing and using vintage bags about halfway through 2019 and it has changed the way I now feel about wear and tear on bags. Previously I really only wanted my bags to be pristine and perfectly preserved. But now after experiencing the beauty of a vintage bag I love how some of them can be so unique and show their history. This has also helped me to embrace some marks on my new bags. I recently got lip balm on the softest suede interior I’ve ever felt (brand new bag less than 24 hrs old) and I was really only bummed for a short while and then got over it lol If that would have happened before I would still be annoyed and stewing lol

I had forgotten about that, but when I was a kid the belief was that you should never give a gift of an empty purse or wallet because it is bad luck, you should always include a coin or a bill for good fortune!

Yes I have found a few things in pockets, a nail file, some loose change, one hang tag where the listing clearly stated that the tag was lost and one bag had a Christopherus medallion and bessing in the inside zippered pocket.

I received a wallet with a medallion and blessing in it. I wonder now if that was intentional.

I'm pretty sure the medalion was placed there intentionally, that bag was wrapped very nicely in gift paper with a ribbon around and then boxed and well protected.
I have also had a few that had a small gift included, or where so nicely wrapped and packaged that I left extra notes for the sellers thanking them for there kindness and care.

I've found feminine products. Someone found a tooth.

ETA: Once I found a little program from a production of The Chorus Line. I've found mini calendars with old dates. I've also found IDs and gift cards.

Once I sold something and the buyer asked me if I had left something in it. I said I didn't remember. She found a check! It wasn't mine.

Along with all the more common finds like toothpicks, paper clips, and "inspected by" tags, I once found a few loose pills. I checked online and found out they were some kind of thyroid medicine.

I once found a 20-year-old receipt from a car dealership for service on a Jeep. I wondered why someone saved that receipt.

I've found a few "lucky penny" gifts, and one nickel made in the same year as the bag. That was cool!

I've never found a hang tag (but I'm ever hopeful).
