Thank you very much. I'll see how it looks when it arrives and decide then. Hopefully it is in decent shape as the listing describes. You all are so helpful.
I’ll be right there with you! I got the same bag at the same time on mercari! Lol twins!! ;)
I “accidentally” dunked a Vachetta wristlet. I didn’t know it was Vachetta until after the fact because I’d never seen Vachetta. Anyway, it’s black so it bled like everywhere and smelled like fish. It was really gross. But all was well. Turned out great and fish smell subsided. But I wouldn’t dunk this whiskey colored ergo. Now that I know what Vachetta is. ;)

What is different about Vachetta than other leathers, for those of us who don't know?

Vachetta leather "is not treated with moisturising oils and coated with sealant that offers the leather some degree of protection from the elements, cleaners and chemicals. As it is untreated, it is susceptible to water and stains, and most things it comes into contact with including rapid aging and drying. But the good part is vachetta leather can be darkened in shade and develop into what we called a patina, a honey golden colour that forms over time and regular use. This is what makes vachetta leather unique."

Ahhh. Well it may be beautiful leather but not practical at all.

I would take it to a cobbler that you trust. Ask questions first and don't leave it with someone that gives you a bad feeling. Make sure he knows that it is a rare and valuable bag.

Nice find!

Thanks Katev, need to find a good cobbler first. The one I trust closed his business last year. I need to be patient with the small shopper.

It's great that your small shopper is in good condition, but after you repair the strap you might consider giving it a bath. Take a look that the difference a bath (with a little TLC) made in the before and after pics of my tan small shopper.

Wow, so beautiful after dunk. I will do that for sure. Plus a good clean will give her a new fresh start.

I hope it's in good shape. I was thinking I could cut a hole in the bottom of a plastic bag and pull the lining through it to clean it while having the plastic bag over the leather.

To anyone can I use Obenauf LP on this leather? I thought I read that it works on vachetta without darkening too much. Would that help with keeping errant water drops from staining?

I washed a whiskey color Ali. The lining was very dirty, much better now after wash. Yes the leather color bleed, the longer you dunk the bag, the worse it bleed, so make sure keep minimum time with leather contact water. I pulled the lining out and wash it first while trying to keep most part of leather dry, then use a microfiber cloth briefly washed the leather outside, dunk the leather part quickly to rinse of soap, holding lining above water during leather cleaning.
The lining stained a bit when hanging the bag upside down to drain the water. After a couple of hours, I rinse the lining to get rid of the color stain, and use cloth pin hang the bag by the lining to dry. The tricky part for Ali is the flap, I tried my best to keep the lining from contacting the leather, your tote should be easier.
Pictures show after and before.

Oh lovely! The other bag I have for rehab is a whiskey Ali crossbody that I posted a few pages back. Hopefully that one is not in too bad of shape either. I have my work cut out for me this month.

Well the second of my three bags arrived today...and in such great condition that Im not doing a dunk...just a condition.
If i need to shape the bottom a bit, do I heat some towels and stuff the bag and condition?
The third and final bag arrived today . Pocket Bag in Putty in better condition than I thought she would be. The small hole in her top flap is nothing bad. But her leather is thick and really firm but at 30 years old I would want firm skin as well.
Pictures when I get home. Have a light above me at work thats flickering on and off like a disco.

I want to say, I think somewhere here I read of at least one person doing a full on dunk of a Whitney. Did you do a search of this thread with the keyword Whitney?

Yes, most refer to a different Whitney - 4115. One person dunked a similar model, the Whitney satchel - got it cleaned but it didn’t help the shape. Mine’s pretty clean, so think I’ll try the stuff, steam and condition method first, since it’s not clear a dunk will help and might do more harm to the top handle. The handle uses an unusual attachment-spin setup - pretty sure the new Willis took its inspiration from this Whitney line.

The recent discussion about the Lindy bag inspired to get my Golden Yellow Lindy out because I haven't carried her in quite awhile - and I have fallen in love with this beautiful bag all over again!

I had forgotten how large it is because in pictures it looks like a small bag, but it is a nice, medium size. I suddenly have a strong urge to carry this bright yellow bag even though we are in the height of winter here in the Midwestern USA.

I am going to a party this weekend, it's just a casual party and I will be wearing jeans and a top. I was thinking of carrying my Lindy to the party (as long as it isn't snowing or raining).

Do you think I would look goofy carrying a summery, yellow bag in the dead of winter? Is this bag "too fancy" for a casual party? Should I just be patient and wait for Spring?

Help me decide what to do!
