These are my recent 3 rehab bags. Mahogany Willis, black Legacy Patricia, navy Rambler. Don't have before picture for Willis. All 3 bags were in good shape before rehab, just need washing with Down soaped water, shaping, and conditioning with leather CPR.

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has ever kept/used a fake Coach bag?

I won an ebay auction for a poorly listed Court bag without creed pics, that I bid on in the last few minutes of the listing ( so I didn't authenticate). I took the risk as it was a VERY cheap bag with reasonable shipping ( I live outside of the U.S.) I am getting more involved in vintage bag collecting and restoration and repair for my own use, and thought at least if the bag was fake I wouldn't feel bad about using it as a guinea pig for testing leather products, trying some stitching or even harvesting parts - things I would stress about with a real bag. ( I don't know if the bag is fake, but now that I look at the photos more carefully, I am a bit suspicious).

Has anyone here ever experimented on a Foach? Used fake parts on genuine bags? If I were to donate the bag to Goodwill at some point, can I cut out the leather cartouche/ remove the fake hang-tag and do so? I know if the bag is fake I can return to seller, but I might not bother if the bag is leather and actually can be used - just not passed off as a genuine item.

Thanks so much!

I got a fake Willis from kijiji for $20 and decided to keep it. It was night time and lighting was dark at time of meeting the seller in downtown for pick up, my car was parked at place only allow 5 mins parking. I didn't even check the Creed untill got home. I contacted seller, she was very sorry, didn't know the difference of real and fake Willis, and offered me to return the bag. But for some silly reason I always avoid driving in downtown, so I decided to just keep the fake as a work bag. The top handle of the fake Willis is really ugly, it actually looks better without the handle. The pictures are fake and authentic Willis side by side

What a difference! That's a great comparison, thanks for posting.

If anyone is looking for a pretty, little "Special Occasion" bag for New Years Eve, this metallic 65th Anniversary Madison Legacy Flap bag with legacy lining is listed on Tradesy for $30 shipped. It has some signs of wear but it looks like a pretty easy rehab.

I have the Legacy Stripe version of this same bag, see the link below:

Hello Artax two, yes, found one in thrift, hand washed, came out great. I was gentle with washing. hope that is helpful. I am not an expert. I suggest waiting for the experts advice.
Thanks, that is encouraging. I have found a few websites that recommend careful washing but indicate it can be done. This particular scarf has some patterning and some light colors and dark colors, so that makes me a bit nervous but it didnt cost much, just a cute pattern that I'd like to not ruin!

Just wanted to add that I used cold water, not ice cold, but cold. I had the same concern in regards to colours running. I may have just been lucky. More opinions most welcomed!

Thanks!

It was a Cashin for Meyers bag, not a Coach bag and it was an early rehab and I think that is was the first time I had to deal with mildew odor in a bag. It was listed as a "Hippie bag" in the ebay auction but I later found Cashin's drawings for it in the UCLA archive and she called it a "Body Bag".
You can see the rehab pics and info below and also the UCLA drawings and a news article featuring the bag.

I don't think colors run on silk. The main issue is stretching it out of shape. Lay it flat to dry in the correct shape.
