This is what I was wondering about. I imagine it’s harder to dye already treated and finished leather since you’re trying to put more dye and color over other dye. Like when your hair is already color treated you have to pick and choose carefully what you add to it.

Plus since the bag was blue but is now faded to brown in only some areas, if the kool aid does manage to dye the bag wouldn’t it look different colors still in the original brown and blue areas?

Maybe OP can try the strap first?
I’ve already thought of that about the hair thing lol. I was going to have a friend of mine who knows color theory tell me which colors need to be added to the faded brown to make navy. She said probably light blue and purple, from what she could see of my bag’s color in the photos. She will see it in person tomorrow to be sure. Still not sure if I’ll be koolaiding it. I’ll test a small spot first. If it doesn’t work, I’ll just have to redye with fielbings. I’m only trying to avoid that because I don’t want to have to use a leather sheen to seal it, since that will make it shiny and I don’t want that

I need some expert opinions about this bag. I asked the seller for a discount and he made an offer, but I'm not sure this one will rehab well....

To my eye, it looks like burgundy? Do you think I can bring it back to life?
I agree, it looks like burgundy. It will probably get much darker after a bath. I rehabbed my tabac saddlery bag, as long as there's no holes or worn through piping, these bags wear like iron. Go for it!

Just finished a rehab of Lenox bag style #9918. Incorrectly listed on Ebay so I took a chance. She is bigger than I thought: 11 1/2 x 8 3/4 x 3 1/4. I really like the shape though. She wasn't too bad when I bought her, just shabby and floppy.

What a beauty, and a hard-to-find style and color. Nice job on the rehab! (Looks perfect with her outfit too.)

That is the challenge with a bag that is discolored. It a a bit different than simple fading or wearing off of a color. At least it is more straight forward to deal with loss of color. I feel for you, I love a navy bag too.

Sorry for the empty post above... I also bought one of these recently (in green) and it was SOOOOO dirty. I soaked it for about 40 minutes to make sure the leather was saturated, then I ended up turning the whole bag inside out, hanging it over my kitchen faucet and scrubbing it with a vegetable brush and Shout. I am sure the more experienced rehabbers would cringe, but I was able to get all of the makeup out The lining looks so much better. It took forever to dry, but I will post photos of finished project when I have some time to condition it. Before (you can't tell but the lining was grey and grimy, with lots of makeup and lipstick streaks) View attachment 4522503 View attachment 4522504

Wow, thank you for posting that! I never thought of turning it inside out. I'm a little more hopeful about dunking mine now.

I can't wait to see your "after" pics!

I think the lighter color may darken with a heavier conditioner, which you may be obligated to use with dunking. I want to give mine a thorough Lexol wipe, followed by Cadillac Supreme, I’ll let you know how it looks. I am going to start with everything except the flap. I will search out the bag of the other poster.

Well I couldn't wait to take the plunge with my Bleecker large flap so she's in rehab, currently drying.

Looking good so far, but I did encounter a problem I've never had before. I think there was some verdigris around the eyelets areas near a buckle (those magnificent Bleecker buckles!) Little flecks of verdigris seem to have landed on the leather during the bath and grabbed hold, confirming my belief that verdigris is an alien life form. Be careful out there!
