Decided to tackle the shoe polish on my Chadwick today. Still wiping off with acetone but I figure I share how shiny a shoe polished bag looks. View attachment 4514926

I am wiping down and wanted to show the difference. You can see a line I'm pointing to. You can see the left side is not as shiny as the right side of the bag.

Thanks for showing.

My newest ebay acquisition. A prairie bag in Bristish tan. It's not quite finished as I just got done with the blackrock and the edges are still a bit dark. This is my first BT color attempt. I did remove the turnlock and dremel all the hardware to get the clear coating off.

Thanks for sharing it, I was curious. I’m glad you’re saving it, cute bag!

I just had to share this as well. My NYC compact pouch I just finished. Totally dunked, so much cpr, so thirsty! Some blackrock, then a little more cpr because I’m crazy I guess . And a tiny bit more blackrocks. You could put makeup on in the turnlock, it’s so shiny now! All thanks to mothers. I love this stuff!!

Ooh, I just finished a compact pouch too -- how many coats of CPR did you give yours? I had to stop at 5!

Sorry there was just too many people to quote lol Thank you for all the great input. I'm trying to be patient and remember this will take some time but it's hard!

I got brave and did the vinegar wipe down inside and out then hung it in the garage to dry. I'll do it again in a day or two. I'm going to see how that does before doing anything else. I think I'm willing to dunk it if it comes to that.

Thanks to the person that suggested the charcoal. I might order some. I did try some of those odor removal balls that are meant for shoes and they helped A LOT.

I know it looks black but the color is actually a gorgeous Navy. There was something on the back that looked like a stain but it looks like it's gone after wiping it down. And there is some green stuff around some of the hardware. I wanted to focus on the smell first because it's a lost cause if I can't get that under control.

I'm not sure I want to remove the hardware. I'm worried I might not get it back on right. Any cleaning tips other than removing it to clean?

I have to agree with @Busykitty -- removing is really the only way to get it fully clean underneath; I tried picking at it with a toothpick and a q-tip and I'm sure that would have been fine on the surface, but once I removed the hardware (which IS a pain in the butt and I sliced my finger at one point) I saw all the gunk underneath.

Here's what I was dealing with before I removed the hardware:

This is what was underneath. UGH. There's no way I could have gotten to it without removing it:

Sorry for spamming with three messages in a row, but here are the final before-and-after's of my '80s/'90s vintage Compact Pouch. It took 5 coats of CPR and it was still soaking it in quickly on the last coat; I didn't do a coat of Blackrocks on this bag because I was worried it would darken it, but those of you who have used it on British Tan (which I believe this bag is?) would you recommend I try it on this bag regardless?

I use Blackrocks on everything Coach. Not on some other brands.

It might be Tabac. But, in any case, I always finish with Blackrock.

If I were you, I would keep putting CPR on it until it stops soaking it up, then Blackrock. It may darken a little, but in a good way.

Thank you both very much for the insight -- I will keep working on this one and see how much of a difference it makes!

Random thought. I need to develop some ambition to clean hardware. I’m pathetic. I use a silver polish cloth.
Your hardware looks wonderful. Thank God I can pass mine off as “antique brass”.

I was wondering if anyone has a suggestion for storing the rehabbing supplies (leather conditioner, metal polish, etc.). Do you have a specific box, etc. you particularly like? I'm really disorganized and would like to find a solution!

Thank you for showing this. Can you also feel and smell the polish?
