I have checked the thread, but the thing is is that the thread is 1400+ pages long. I only have so much patience, you know? So I figured I'd just ask
I’ve learned most of what I know by reading old posts. There is a wealth of information by people who are no longer actively posting. Have you tried the search feature? I have searched by member as well as topic. Also remember , there people like me tend to have more time to read and post on weekends. If your post is not answered, it doesn’t necessarily mean it is being ignored. It may simply mean that others are just not available to participate on that blog at that time.
Removing ink is not something in my skill set. Yet. And yeah, there has been loads of posting on it here.

@whateve and our other experienced (bring new life to old bags) profis.

I have some saphir navy leather dye, is it suitable mixed with leather cpr to apply to the sun bleached remember Willis.
That Willis is not the same shade of deep almost black navy the gold hardware Willis is, which is fine I like having different shades of blue.
I'd rather get some advice before I mess with things I have no clue about.
I've not use Saphir dye, but I've mixed other dyes with conditioner. It worked every well.

The harsh reality is, I don't know of any way to reliably remove ink lines or spots from smooth leather. Alcohol or acetone might remove them, but will also possibly leave stains or lighten the color. Test cautiously, and dunk afterwards because both of these solvents dry out the leather.

Someone upthread mentioned successfully using a Chemical Guys product to remove ink lines. That would be the Holy Grail of leather care, but I have not tried it yet!

The ink lines on your bag's inner flap are on smooth leather, not suede. Any erasing done on smooth leather would probably remove some finish and color, along with the ink (maybe).

Side note: don't use acetone or alcohol on some fabric linings. Vintage Madisons and Sheridans have a lining that will be ruined.

I’ve searched and read back through this thread a few times regarding pen stains and the conclusion I came to was there is no real solution lol There are so many factors to contend with, type of leather, type of dye, dye color, age of bag, etc. It’s really a case by case basis. I’d be too afraid to try a lot of the removal methods on a very visible portion of a bag. I’d be a little braver with interior pen marks but even then I’d debate just leaving it as is because would I rather have light pens marks or color removal if I was too aggressive lol

I haven’t run into pen on the outside of a bag yet though :)

Aren't all the ink marks on the inside of the flap? I wouldn't try too hard to remove them. I don't think you should use zit cream on a dark bag because it will bleach out the leather. I've used industrial strength acetone successfully a few times to remove lines of ink, but you have to be very careful or you will easily damage the surrounding leather. It also depends on the kind of ink it is. Gel ink is impossible to remove. If it is ballpoint, the acetone has a chance.

If it were my bag and the ink was in the inside of the flap, I'd just leave it there. You can just as easily make it much worse by trying to remove it.

Haha I just ordered the Chemical Guys spray. But that is something to think about, too.

I'm going to try the spray though. I've been wanting to.

Yeah, I get what you're saying. I really should use the search feature more often. I tend to read back a few pages and give up. Searching needs to be put in MY skill set. Lol

I have used the Saphir rejuvacuir and mixed it with Cadillac Select (lighter than CPR) and did fine with it. I have even dabbed it on solo, as it was intended for use. I can’t come back to much later, but I would love to know which Saphir product you are using in navy. A few people here have used different Saphir products. If you do a search of Saphir, that may yield some info. I am a Saphir fan and want to try a recolorant in green on a pebbled bag!

Well, I'm strapping on my helmet and attempting the Chemical Guys spray. It's on the inner flap anyway. Worst case is I have a discolored inner flap or something.

The times when I’m really searching for info, usually for pics of old styles or colors i find using my laptop so much easier to filter through the results than my phone. There is a basic search and an advanced search option that can help narrow down results better.

I have an iMac and a smartphone (Android). Most of the time I'm on my smartphone. The search is okay, except the search bar and the text is white on white -- white text on a white background. Idk.

I would have my dunking water all ready to go and try dipping into the spray with a q tip and starting that way. If you see any discoloration starting you can dunk the bag to try and really rinse the spray off.

That happens on my iPhone, you can tap the little gear at the end of the search bar and it will open the more advanced search and then you can see what your typing. The white on white is annoying.

View attachment 4493094She arrived yesterday. I still think she’s too good to be true, but she’s a pristine red Patricia that was purchased and thrown in a closet for 20 years. The hardware has no wear, I’m almost afraid to give her a much needed bath. I initially got her to use while I repaired and bathed my everyday black Patricia. I had no idea she would arrive in such condition. Now I need another everyday bag while both Patricia’s are in dispose and more cpr! Haha

What a gorgeous bag! Congratulations on giving it a new home where it will get some proper usage!

I'll confess, I read your post initially and thought "What kind of monster would toss this beautiful bag in a closet for 20 years?" and then I realized... I was that monster as most of my Coach pieces haven't gotten proper usage since I bought them, some of them having been in storage for at least 15 years. Gulp! Granted, they're all thrift store finds, but that's no excuse. I have since pulled all of them out and will be rehoming at least half of them so they can be properly enjoyed. Thanks to everyone on this forum for inspiring me to rehab and rehome!

I think that's an awesome idea. See, I'm a crazy nut. I genuinely was thinking of spraying the whole area just to see what happens! Being safer is better for my wallet: no ruining a perfectly good purchase that way.

I truly cannot wait for my Manor to come. This will be my first "real" test of rehabbing skills. The Willis was just misshapened and had small issues. The Court had light staining. The Manor, however is dirty, misshapen AND has ink issues! Whoo hoo! I'm so down for the challenge!

It looks like she used it on a lime/geometric bag and had success. I'm glad for you that they're only on the inside flap.

I'm eventually going to consider some of the tips you have unearthed from others on this bag though since the pen marks are all at least 5+ years old, I don't think anything I do will help it:

I finally finished rehabbing my Tan Patent Ergo Pleated Framed Satchel 12520. It was originally released in 2008 for $498 and I bought this poor bag at Goodwill for $10 and it was kindly authenticated by @whateve.

It was dirty, squished, and the lining was filthy, and there was wear on both the inner and outer edges of the piping on the handles or straps.

I washed it and was able to clean and reshape the bag but there was color loss in the leather piping and the clear patent material was flaking off in large areas on the handles/straps. I came up with a repair solution that I think worked well that I will show you with the After pictures.

Thank you so much for all your help! I wish for luck for your ink marks. I have no idea how old mine are. The seller did tell me he attempted to remove them with Coach leather cleaner and they lifted a bit, so there's hope for me! If Coach's stuff worked a little, the heavy duty stuff should really help! I'm gonna go check out what you found from 2014 and possibly add it to my arsenal!
