Ahhhh I’m so excited! My Rambler is here! I know this bag is so common haha but I’m pumped! First time I’ve ever been able to really inspect one of these older styles and the quality just really blew me away. I think it’s in pretty good shape but I’m still going to attempt a full rehab as the strap has a lot of darkening at the top and some other areas need some love. I think this color will be good for me to learn with. I’ve ordered some polishing clothes to clean up the brass as well. Wish me luck!

Is this color Mahogany? And every time I get my creed skills in check my brain seems to forget it all lol It’s A9C-9061 which I think means it’s was made in 1999?

Congrats! It’s a fairly easy to find bag. It really has a great style, so I am not surprised that Coach cranked out a lot of them. I have one that is like new, in navy and a black one with wear, or as I like to say, distressed. I bought them as part of a lot.

I think most of any darkening you see will even out with a thorough conditioning. I think you are going to luv this bag. And she just became vintage in January  Yes on Mahogany .
And I have come to admire (and purchase) a few contemporary styles, but my heart and soul will always love this beautiful substantial baseball glove leather and what Coach did with it once upon a time . . .

Thanks @valv54, I don't panic that easy, how much more damage can one do after shoe polish, I just have to prepare properly. It has to be done outside and I have to make sure I got my nebulizer and rescue inhaler out there with me.
I will get her done.
Yes definitely, do it outside. That's how I felt about my bag so I ended up just pouring it on the bag. After all that it looked like an acid washed denim color. As a hail Mary, put obenaufs oil on, also outside, let it bake in the sun, and the navy really came back to life.

Lol I used Woolite for my last rehab. Thankfully it turned out great. I didn't know it was considered to be too alkeline for leather.
Fortunately the leather of this quality seems to be forgiving. By the way, I dunked a grimy little bone colored bag, maybe with a bit of Dawn added to my usual Lexol and was really surprised at how clean it got. I brush thoroughly but with a light touch using a toothbrush.

Here she is! My newly rehabbed Willis! Last night's repair still need a bit of drying, but I figured I'd post pics anyway. Also, I'm waiting for a new turnlock. While putting the faceplate back on on Saturday, I scratched it with the tool I was using. I buffed the scratches off for the most part, but a faint trace of it remains. I know most people won't see it, but the thing is, is that *I* know it's there. So I'll be replacing it.

The strap rehabbed nicely. It was beat up when I got it (remember, the bag didn't come with a strap). A bath and conditioner got it looking better.

Anyway, it's 99% done, and I got antsy to show you all, so here she is! Yayyy!!! The third pic is the near finished repair. The last photo is the "before" pic that I took the day before I started.

Sweet, enjoy! Isn’t it cool to work out a little defect that people won’t notice unless you point it out?

A true Rehab pioneer! I've been tempted to just throw caution to the wind sometimes, now I'm inspired to go for it (next time)!

Do you think Lexol is better than Dawn? Or is there much of a difference?
I really can’t say. I would guess not. I started using Lexol early on, I like the hint of fragrance. I also like to pour some in a bucket for wiping down leather shoes and boots as well. It is marketed as pH balanced for leather. Hey, when I’m doing a Hail Mary rehab, I’ll stack the deck in my favor however I can, ha!
ETA no, lol , I am not a Lexol distributor.

It can't get much worse for that poor thing, she is truely a Hail Mary bag, it can only get better.
