You'd mentioned the D-rings facing backwards being a bothersome thing for you -- did you stuff the bag with towels after dunking it and leaving them there while it dried? That would have poofed out the sides a bit. It's also possible the heaviness of the towels you're using to reshape the handle are pulling the bag slightly backwards as a result. Do they still face backwards after the handle-shaper is removed?

I agree with @coach943 that the bag doesn't look particularly dry at this point and would probably be fine with a couple coats of CPR spaced out over a couple days or so. That's all I've been using on my two rehabs thus far and the bags seem to look pretty good. (I need to do a coat of Blackrocks on them both and will then post my pics!)

I am wondering if the pictures shown, where taken before stuffing the bag itself, or if stuffed not enough to reshape those sides. I always stuff mine till there is no more room inside, then I press around the bottom where I see "bulges" not to stretch the leather any further, if the sides are supposed to go inwards or outwards is if course other consideration.

Funny I never have paid attention at how the D rings look like, maybe because they looked OK with the shape of the sides. I will pay more attention in the future.

I dunked two geometric bags - an orange and a mahogany. No problems with reshaping.

Are you sure those were pen marks? I got out a purple stain once that looked like an ink leak in the pictures, but when I touched it, I realized that it’s definitely not ink.

It looked like ink, but I’m not 100%. It got most of this unknown stain off as well which did behave much more like ink. The cleaner is worth a shot if your hopeless lol. I got a sample pack a while back on amazon.

Welcome! I love that color!

First, I would NOT recommend putting Vitamin E lotion on the bag! I'd only use Leather CPR or a conditioner formulated specifically for leather.

You can wash the bag following instructions on this thread.

The dark spots might or might not come out. The ink probably will not come out.

I would not recommend dyeing the bag yourself.
Ok, thanks for all the links. I have gone through and made methodical notes! I’m left with a couple questions. And yes I’m a huge nerd!
Does anyone use anything other than a soft toothbrush on the outside of the bag when cleaning while dunking? Something bigger but still soft?

I scrub gently using a little nail brush with natural bristles:

I have used a horsehair brush like kiwi makes to buff, in the bath. Turned out fine and much bigger. I find a toothbrush a little small but good to get into edges.

I just use a soft cloth, but I have a nailbrush like Catbird's if I need it. Using a horsehair brush is a good alternative, too. Just make sure you are gentle because you can damage the leather. You don't want to scrub hard.

Are those stains from something splashed on the bag? Or is it mold damage? Either way, I don't think you're going to improve those spots if it still looks like that after dunking and conditioning. I'm not one to paint bags or use a leather refinisher, but that's probably the only thing you can do at this point.
I think that looks like mold damage. If it is, it won't clean off.
I had a bag with similar "looking" type spotting and nothing I tried worked for it, it was on the front side as well. After giving up, I put it up for sale and someone bought it loving the spots, said that made the bag have "character", that it was unique.
Matter of "someone's trash is someone's treasure..." , not saying that yours is trash, LOL just that if not happy after you are done, may be someone will love it the way it is.

Thanks for the feedback! The spots aren't pitted and it doesn't smell mildewy, but it could be mold damage. I'm going to use some leather oil to see if I can even out the color a bit more. Now I know.
