Thanks, and I’m very curious about your towel technique!

If possible, I’d love to please ask a few things.

I’m assuming that you use wet, damp towels?
Just run them under warm water, wring them, and stuff the bag?

Use the CPR immediately, as soon as the towels are in the bag?

Would you use this to reshape a lopsided handle?
And if so, how?
(Wrap the towels around the handle? Or stuff a rolled-up towel into the loop of the top handle? Or...?)

Also, this would work for a bag that's already been rehabbed with a bath, and wasn't shaped perfectly when it was stuffed and dried? (Ahem. I'm pointing at myself.)

Also, about using a suede brush. I’ve never used one, and I should probably get one.
Would you use something like this?
https://www.amazon.com/Shacke-Nubuc...h&qid=1559954774&s=gateway&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1

When using a suede brush, you use just the brush, yes? (No cleaning product or anything?)

I'm not catbird9, but I think she meant dry towels hot from the dryer.
For a suede brush, I use a nail brush, like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Konex-Non-Sl...ds=nail+brush&qid=1559955820&s=gateway&sr=8-4

Yes, I meant dry towels heated in the dryer.

For the lopsided handle, I'd apply leather CPR and then prop it into upright position with a rolled up towel.

Look what was delivered, guys! :amazed:

I'm so happy that it's in surprisingly good condition.

It was my birthday in the last couple of weeks, and figured it'd be nice to celebrate and get this.
I turned 30, and it seemed like this bag has a suitable, sophisticated vibe.

Hoping the rehab comes out ok.
I don't know what to do with it.

Because it's kind of misshapen, I'm thinking I should dunk?
Or should I try something more conservative first, and then dunk later, if necessary?

The inside is pristine.
The bag isn't icky. So from that perspective, I'd be fine if it doesn't get a bath.

It's from 1996. Don't know whether I should be concerned about loosing color in a bath.
(I don't know whether bags from that time tend to bleed a lot.)

This will be my first time rehabbing a red bag. (The Regina won't be delivered for a while.)
Any opinions and tips are very, very much welcome and appreciated!

So here it is.

Front looks nice.
1 -- Manor -- Front of bag.JPG

Just a few tiny things.

2 -- Manor -- Front -- Closeup.jpg

Probably the "biggest" issue is on the bottom – a small, dark mark.
Anything that might get rid of this?

4 -- Manor -- Mark on bottom.jpg

The sides are misshapen.
And dry.
To help rehydrate the leather, wondering if the bag should get a bath.

5 -- Left side.JPG

6 -- Right side.JPG

On the tabs, there are some dark marks (assuming from the hardware).
7 -- Manor -- Sides -- Closeups showing loops.jpg

There's a little thread loop.
I should probably just ignore this?

8 -- Manor -- Thread on handle.jpg

I remember that @whateve advised that streaks like this are just sometimes caused by the grain of the leather.
9 -- Manor -- Back.JPG

The strap looks a little bit worn (and perhaps a little bit dirty).
If the bag doesn't get a bath, maybe the strap should.

^ Btw, I realize dunking is always a risk.
If you think it will make the bag better, and if I screw it up in the process, I'll live.

=)

Sorry I've requested so much hand-holding lately.
Hope I'm not bothering anyone.
I really appreciate the advice everyone has provided!
I'll get better at this with experience.
I search before I ask. I've made a couple of significant boo boos when I didn't ask, and felt bad about treating those vintage pieces with less care than they deserved. In retrospect, I wish I'd checked with you here first. I enjoy talking with everyone!

Hey guys!
Most likely, this will rehab well, right? (I'm a little bit nervous.)

Think the suede is a big deal? Any experience with red bags and suede, after a dunk? Will it likely look better?

I haven't done a red bag yet.

 What a beautiful find! I can't wait to see when you've conditioned it! I love the red.

What a beauty! Happy Birthday! I've never dunked a red bag; so I can't help there, but make sure that dark mark isn't ink before you get it wet. I washed a British Tan Regina that had a tiny stain inside that turned out to be ink, and it bled to the outside when I washed the bag.

Happy birthday! I've dunked a few red bags, red is my favorite color. In the bath red bleeds ot looks like a crime scene, but it never has dulled the color, a bath will plump up the leather. What I've noticed, at least for me, is you need to watch what conditioner you put on after the dunk, or it really will darken the color. I always use leather CPR for a red bag. We are always happy to help, we want to see you have a successful rehab.

I remember early on voraciously reading everything I could about rehabbing, so I wouldn’t worry about asking questions. You have already been given lots of guidance I would only repeat. I will only say, I did not dunk my tomato red Pocket Bag as it did not need it. I condition it with Cadillac Select (from Amazon). I dunked a candy apple red Curtis bag, used Leather Therapy C/R with no problems.
That being said, what a fabulous red bag. IMO, vintage red is a tricky color, as is BT. With use and exposure to air (and in my case, minute splatters from coffee, water bottles, banging and rubbing up against *fill in the blank* that is a day in the life of my bags) some small spots arise spontaneously. So the items you have pointed out are non-issues for me, as they might as well easily happen with my use, and I can live with them. Yet I totally appreciate that you want to minimize them.

Aw, thanks!
Good point about ink, thank you for mentioning that.
I'll check the inside of the bag to make sure that the mark isn't also there.
I guess that maybe I should try to remove the dark mark before dunking.

Ok, I'll use Leather CPR.
May I ask, when you've use Leather CPR on red bags, have you also finished with Blackrock?
(And if so, did it darken the color or anything?)

Yes, I figure that I may do the equivalent amount of minor damage after a few wears.
But hey, our bags are meant to be enjoyed!

Gorgeous! Happy birthday!

Thanks!!

BlackRock will darken the color if you let it sit on there to long. I do sections of the bag and use an old rag to take off the access. Like put some on the back, buff it off, put some on the flap, buff it off, and so on. The black rock will soak in and the color will be fine especially if doing it where its warm like outside.

I have an odd question to ask.
I bought an old Mimco leather bag as practice for a dye job on another black leather bag I have.
Now Im wondering if you can dunk this bag like you can coach bags.
Its is very bad condition so its no sacrifice as it cost me zero $
Do you expert rehabbers have an opinion.20190610_112257.jpg 20190610_112348.jpg

Other brands don't respond to dunking like Coach. I dunked a Fossil once. It completely ruined it. Apparently Fossil uses glue in the seams. It melted and stained the purse.

ok cool... thank you...thought that might be the case..some of the leather has lost top surface...but am thinking of pulling the lining out to clean...them clean the leather and dye.
