Oh my goodness! I love them both! Thanks for posting them, MB!
You're welcome! The barrel shaped one is the first manor I bought and someone had modified the D rings and strap clips, which I didn't like, so I decided I was going to sell it and I bought the second bag to replace it. I was so surprised by the shape of the second bag that I didn't sell the first one because I wanted to carry it both ways to decide which shape I liked better. Needless to say I kept them both and I still haven't decided if I'm going to sell the barrel bag. The modified hardware still bothers me but the taller and slimmer bag is in near perfect condition so I'm hesitant to carry it. Silly, right?

I’d keep both ;) & use them bc as much as I enjoy carrying a soft, timeworn vintage bag, there’s something exciting about carrying one in new condition! Sometime in the last week or so, I pulled out a new looking classic bag & was set to bring it out into the world but after I walked out the door & realized it was drizzling, I ran back in & switched. [emoji23] I did carry it the next day.

I agree! Yesterday I carried a 1998 Willis that I had just finished rehabbing and the leather is so soft and flexible, definitely timeworn. I just love it. But I'm also waiting for the right time to carry my 1995 new looking manor (the slimmer one in the pics I posted). I know that I don't have to worry about these bags because they do restore so beautifully if they do get mildly damaged or scuffed but I still do worry. Especially with the new looking bags. Those are hard to find without having to put a lot of work into them!

Hi all! I recently bought a Stewardess bag at a great price and had planned to restore it. However, when it arrived, the shoulder strap had a couple of broken areas & a tear in the leather on the edge where the flap comes over the top. Seller apparently had not noticed the problems and made a fair adjustment. Dunked the bag and the feet rusted on the towel I set it on to dry. From bad to worse! Has anyone had a Coach bag with feet that rusted after dunking? And can the problem be fixed? Suggestions on fixing leather breaks and tears? I am wondering if the leather is a dry rot problem. Help!

I saw this black court bag 9870 at the Thrift Shop the other day for only $7.50 but I left it behind because of the missing top strap, but I kept thinking about it so I went back and bought it today.

The bag is in very good condition and will rehab well, but I don't know if it is worth the bother with such a major, obvious condition issue.

I decided that for $7.50, if I can't fix it then I can use it for parts because the strap, turnlock, D-rings, and hangtag are all in good shape. It's a shame though, who would defile such a pretty, classic bag?!

All I can think off to replace the missing top handle is a scarf or a chain - does anyone have other ideas?

Katev, I’d be tempted to find a Lucite/Bakelite handle. I think one in tortoise shell color would look so nice with black. With measurements & the many thrifted vintage bags/train cases that have them, it might be a fun twist on this classic.

I'm super excited to get this bag today! It was kindly authenticated here before I bid but I was surprised to win. I can't wait to get home from work and dunk her! The leather is yummy. And she's in much better shape than I was expecting.
There is an extra hole punched in the strap but I'm confident I can take care of that with all the helpful information here.
ETA I'm sorry if the pics are huge!

I don't have either bag now, but I think Manor would be heavier than Willis. That is because of the two sections. They made the divider out of heavy leather. A lot of top handle bags have problems with the handle tilting. I think Manor bags want to do that squishing in at the sides. Rehabbing will fix it, but it might tend to get like that again.

Thanks for letting me know! That's very helpful!

I've never had a Willis, so I can't speak to the weight comparison, but I've almost finished rehabbing my first Manor bag which came to me with a weird shape and tilted handle. It's been a really easy rehab so far, the trickiest part for me was figuring out how to position it while wet so that the sides didn't dry weird, but that still wasn't very difficult. Here are a few pictures showing what it looked like before, and what it looks like now after being dunked, shaped, dried, and having a few coats of conditioner applied. I haven't carried it yet, but I like it enough already that when I saw a great deal on a red one last week, I snapped it up lol.

Wow, what a transformation! It looks beautiful!

Thanks! That gives me a sense of how they can be improved.

I have both bags, and unless I am standing totally still wearing the Willis, I feel like a dork when she's cross-body.

Step. Thunk. Step. Thunk.

Soooo...she will probably be sold one day, though I enjoy the scale and functionality of the bag. The manor is a bit easier to wear cross- body but does have a wider profile than is ideal and the handles on mine are always a bit wonky.

I'm thinking about wrapping a twilly around the handle of the Manor, and maybe shaping some wire underneath to hold the handle shape. If you're into scarves on your bags maybe that would be something to try?

Both bags are beautiful, so you just have to trial and error until you find what works for you

About the scarf on the handle, interesting solution! If you end up doing that, keep us posted here.

May I ask, do you find the Willis and Manor hold similar amounts of stuff?

And even if the Manor is a bit heavier in terms of weight, do you find it any more comfortable to wear crossbody, compared with the Willis? (I'm wondering if the comfort factor isn't just about weight, but weight distribution and ergonomics.)

I also have both styles and I'm not sure which one I prefer, I love them both. I love that I don't have to root around for my stuff in the Manor because of the divided interior. Sometimes I just need the size and shape of the Willis for what I'm carrying with me for the day. I tend to switch up my bags fairly regularly though, so I never have time to pick a favorite. They're all my favorite!

One of my Manors has a round barrel shape and the others are tall and slim shaped. I like it both ways! When I dunked one of them I shaped it to tall and slim. I have not reshaped the barrel one because I kind of like it that way too. But in answer to your question, yes, you can shape it after a dunk. And yes, the Manor is a bit heavier than the Willis.

Thanks for the reply!

The divided interior of the Manor is appealing. You're right, it would depend on what's being carried on a given day. I tend to switch up my bag frequently too.

Since you have both, do you find the Manor feel heavier than the Willis when you wear it crossbody? Or is the Manor any more comfortable, even if it's a bit heavier than the Willis?
