I really don't want to freak anyone out but I am certain that the manor I dunked - and warped- had fibreboard between the two layers of leather on the flap.

I actually removed the turnlock and pried open the leather cutout to see the insides. I had been hoping to perhaps build up the low points in the now buckled cardboard, using something that wouldn't cause mold to grow ( I'm still thinking through this idea). Anyway, the inside is positively fibreboard. I am certain now that I warped both of my Manors, it's just very minor on one of them and wouldn't have noticed if I didn't reference the 'before' photos.

It is certainly posdible that I didn't flatten the flap properly when drying. Perhaps I just didn't weigh it down for long enough? Perhaps the buckling occured slowly with a still damp interior layer when the outside seemed dry? I remember being concerned about mold growth and may have just not given enough drying time weighted.

If I were to buy a Manor again I would not dunk unless I really had to. That's just my experience though!

If you do dunk, I believe that the fibreboard also runs under the handle, and along the back top of the bag. That's where the warping is for me on my other bag. So I would work out some way to weight that whole paneled section when drying. If you feel along that area you can feel the stiffener in there.

Finally - and this might seem bonkers - but I would also clean the ring on the flap for turnlock and put it back before dunking, as it will help align the leather layers and fibreboard when drying. Just allow for that protrusion when drying the flap - say by cutting a hole in the board your using to flatten the flap.

I hope that's a bit helpful? If not, just ignore. I might just be unlucky with this style bag

Do you happen to have pics of the warped bag? Also...I hate to ask, no offense intended....are you sure the bag is authentic if it does indeed contain fibreboard? I'm just speculating here, I have no idea if Coach would use cardboard or not. But apparently they did in the binocular bag, so who knows. I just don't want it to be true!

I wouldn't say mine feels like it contains cardboard, the top handle feels no different than the top handle of my Court bags. I've dunked Courts with no issues. The manor definitely has a very firm leather as opposed to the soft pliable leather of the Court, but I think that's to help it maintain its shape. I'm wondering if the manor with carboard was not authentic? I've always heard to have them authenticated first because fake bags do not rehab as nicely. My BT manor is a rehab special I think (haven't received it yet), I am pretty sure I will have no choice but to dunk that one. I will let you know how it goes.
If asked, I would have said my Court contained cardboard after it started drying because it got so hard and the flap didn’t want to bend closed anymore, but 4 coats of CPR and she is silky and soft. The stickiness of the morning was gone by the time I got home and she spent the day hanging in the shower.

Maybe the other Manor was fake, or maybe the construction varies by year made?

I was looking at a bag this morning that the hang tag had separated and I wondered if you could glue them back together, I guess so haha
I bought leather glue recently so I could do that. It is not uncommon for them to separate with time. I put a thin even coat on one part, aligned them and put them under a book for several hours, and let it lie flat for 24 hours. Looks like new!

Especially the early double-sided hangtags were prone to separating, guess it took the makers some time to find the magic glue formula that worked... The worst part is when the greedy sellers sell two halves as two separate hangtags :/

No worries, it's a fair question. I had both bags authenticated here.
In hindsight, now that I know about the fibreboard, I don't know why I didn't look for it sooner. How else is the flap going to maintain that shape? If the leather were not backed, it would be far more flexible. Even if you have two layers of leather, there would be some flop. I believe it's also necessary to have some kind of stiffener as a base for turnlocks and snap hardware installation, or the leather would just tear from use eventually.

Thank you! Do you know about when they started making them double sided?

It seems to me when they started around with the alpha numeric apha /style # reg under the Creed. My all numeric bags came with single sided tags. My bags after 1994 are all double sided.
I was thinking around the same time too, possibly a little earlier for bags with special hangtags like Madisons, Sheridans, Dakotas, etc.

No worries, all authentic per the AT thread. The stiffener is just in the flap, where the flap is attached to the body, and top backside of bag. You can see some of the warping on my avatar picture ( wrinkles above turnlock). I'll try to post more tomorrow.

I wondered if maybe stiffener was only in some models. Mine are authentic, checked out here. The feel of the Manor flap is different that my Court. But check yours out when it comes, if you are taking the hardware off to clean anyway, just open up the leather a teensy bit and look inside that oval cut-out, or feel with your fingers. It looks like tan, slightly rough cardboard and the leather is partially glued to it. I now believe I have fibreboard in other bags ( Canterbury, Equestrian - all on flaps).

I don't want to put you off this rehab at all, and I feel bad that I may have caused some worry - please dunk if you want to! I just wanted to share my face-palm experience so that someone else doesn't have the same results.

I hope there is a special place in hell for them. Right next to the people who intentionally sell the hang tags from a bag separately.

I am glad to be forewarned, had I known my Willis had a wooden rod at the top I would not have submerged it because water is terrible for wood. If it seems to have cardboard I will dunk the bottom and just wipe the top section. Although I wonder what CPR seeping into it will do. Having just taken the color out of a Tods trying to remove a small ink line, I am in cautious mode.

Pics of flap before and after. Still a stunning bag - but it would be awesome if the flap didn't lose that crispness.

I've had shoes in closets before, but I prefer them by the door because we all like to be barefoot at home. It's more convenient to have them all right by the door. (That sounds better than I found a way to avoid bringing them up and down the stairs!) ;) I hadn't thought of the bare feet helping with the boy sneakers!! That's a happy bonus!
We don't wear shoes in the house either. But I don't think anyone would want all of my many shoes by the door! lol! That would be crazy in my situation :-) We do keep my son's there though. My husband and I just bring whatever shoes we are wearing to the door area.

I wonder if more water got inside because you took off the hardware. Maybe it wouldn't have warped if the hardware had been left on, and possibly not dunked for too long.
