Suede is hard to clean. You can usually bathe it just like leather, but you can't condition it. After it dries, you need to brush it with a stiff brush. I use a nail brush. Sometimes light sanding helps, but you can't use regular sandpaper that might transfer color. I have a sanding block. The dirt on the corners might wash or sand away. It is impossible to tell. You can't tell how deep the dirt goes.Hello. I found this bag. It's suede and I have no clue how to clean it, or if it's worth buying it. Help!
Thank you. Other than these areas, it's as clean as can be and it's just really a beautiful piece.Suede is hard to clean. You can usually bathe it just like leather, but you can't condition it. I too will be following your progress on this bag. I hope it comes out amazing!Thank you. I don't usually do tough rehabs. I am mostly used to wash, dry and conditioning. I just bathed the red carousel yesterday. Today I bathed the purple station bag and the Jade Kimball zip. Both were pretty clean so didn't have to do any hard work. They didn't even bleed any color in the bath! This tote on the other hand just revealed worn piping after the wax was removed. Sigh.. more work.
Ok wax is coming off when I scrape with my finger nail. There's no way I'm scraping this whole bag so I just decided to give it a hot bath. This is so gross. I have never ever had faced a harder rehab in my life. Stay tuned.. not sure if she will be a beauty but hopefully better than before. The layers coming off is making me want to throw up. Did all of the wax come off in the hot bath? I've gotten melted candle wax off a tablecloth by ironing over a brown paper bag (low heat). I'll be watching for the final rehab and am very curious to hear about the leather cement!I bought some leather cement recently so I guess this is the perfect time to try it. I assume I have to use it like spackling a wall? Lol. Haven't read the instructions yet. It looks different in different lighting. The bag is still wet so I'm guessing it will dry lighter. Left is with flash on, right is without. I do think it looks a lot less splotchy than it was before the bath. View attachment 4382571
Thanks for sharing. I should probably do it too to make sure I got them all out. [emoji848] It's drying now. But I still have to condition it. So do I iron first or condition first?Did all of the wax come off in the hot bath? I've gotten melted candle wax off a tablecloth by ironing over a brown paper bag (low heat). Yikes! I don't know if it can handle ironing or whether the leather will absorb or release the wax. On a tablecloth, the heat melts the wax and the brown paper bag absorbs the wax. Thanks for sharing. On second thought, I better not. I will just go with what I normally do and put leather CPR on and see how it goes. I'll take another pic before I condition it. It should look much lighter in the morning when it's drier.Yikes! I don't know if it can handle ironing or whether the leather will absorb or release the wax. Me neither. I thought it was a dye job gone wrong when I bought it.Wow I have never seen anything like that!
Looks like an animal chewed it, or it got dragged across asphalt.
Seller is a bit <cough> optimistic with that price, IMO.
I did dunk green vintage bags twice... It was quite uneventful - the bleeding was minimal, and the wet leather didn't leave any traces on the towels while drying. It basically went just like with any neutral color. Love green bags because they are not statement pieces like the red ones yet they stand out just enough to spice things up a bit!Rehab experts, what is your opinion on rehabbing green colors? I am considering getting a bottle or forest green color next. Do they handle dunking well?
