Actually, I have to ask: why not dunk?I have dunked 2 recently. I have to say they are hard to reshape! I really always dunk old bags to plump the leather back up.
I'm just scared it will ruin the stripped liningActually, I have to ask: why not dunk?
Oh okay, that's smart. Mine weren't lined.I'm just scared it will ruin the stripped lining
Hi all, I'm wondering if anyone has experience rehabbing a vachetta bag?
I have Poppy Willis in natural, with the striped legacy lining. She came super dirty, and I really want to clean the inside.
Outside, the leather has some staining, most notably pen marks on the front, which I made SO much worse trying to remove them.
Has anyone dunked this bag? Dunked vachetta in general? Is the legacy lining colorfast if I just use a wet cloth on the inside? Is there a benefit to dunking this kind of bag? I am a bit out of my depth here, as I have never had this kind of leather.
So far I have used leather CPR all over to clean. I am totally okay with a deeper patina should that occur. I have been researching docride's patina method with LV and Hermes threads, but of course they don't dunk over there.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Hi all! I found a COACH Legacy Archival Two-tone Blue Willis Crossbody at the thrift #K1220-22409 like this one below and there are two things that I need help on. First, the turnlock is broken and missing the top piece that turns. Is this something I can fix myself? Where would I purchase it?
Also, this beautiful bag has a pungent tobacco smell. Since it is fabric inside, do you recommend dunking? Is so, what cleaner do you recommend?
I would greatly appreciate your response. It looks like the one in this pic![]()
I got a used legacy Willis (22382) several months ago and here is what I did:
Vacuumed out insides of bag (mine has the cotton not the satin legacy lining)
I *think* I used Clorox wipes to very quickly wipe the outside leather making sure to not actually let it get wet. Something like I quickly wiped then dried with a paper towel. But I'm not 100% sure if I did this step or not (it may have been for a different legacy bag). I know I used the wipes on the inside cotton lining but I'm not sure what they would do to your satin legacy lining.
Used a qtip and spit (yes gross) to remove some marks (not from pen...not sure what they were caused by maybe pencil or dirt?). Coach CS said the leather on my bag should not ever get wet as dye will run and leave water spots.
I used Coach leather moisturizer and moisturized one or two times.
The area around the seams of my bag was bent in so I bent it out again from the inside of the bag, stuffed and hung by the top handle and it no longer appears bent to me.
Some of the wear on my bag can't be fixed but I'm happy to use her as she is. There was a mark on the bottom of the bag that I made worse with a qtip and isopropyl rubbing alcohol so I don't recommend that on this leather.
I don't have explicit before/after photos but here is a before:

If the bag smells the one thing that has always worked for me is coffee grounds. Keep them in a cloth sac inside the bag so they don't stain the inside and leave them in place for all as long as it takes. I've used them on old wood furniture and a handbag that smelled strongly of cat. It may take weeks but it always works for me!
I have been doing this for the last three weeks with a Dooney that I bought that smells strongly of cigarette smoke. It has helped. After a couple of weeks, I did replace the coffee with a new batch, figuring it couldn't hurt and might would help.I got a used legacy Willis (22382) several months ago and here is what I did:

Very impressive! I might just have to invest in one of those!Has anybody used a Edge Kote Roller? I saw one while searching for something else and ended up buying one from Amazon. I got it yesterday and it is freaking awesome. You dip it in the Edge Kote and then roll it across the area that needs to be coated. It was so much easier then a paint brush.

That's quite impressive. I recently gave up on using edgekote. It never seems to give the results I want.Has anybody used a Edge Kote Roller? Unfortunately that sounds like a stain I had on a Sling bag that did not change with dunking, although I did not try any special cleaning, other than vigorous tooth brush cleaning during the dunking. Let’s see what others say.Hello kind rehabbers... I hope you can help me out with this one, any input would be very much appreciated.
I got a Kesington briefcase that I want to dunk, etc.... but at the bottom there are a couple dark stains that I do not know what they are, so I do not know what to use, to try to remove them first, try during the bath...?
It is not ink or grease, it feels like the leather is stiffer in that area, like "shrunk"? The stain didn't go through, inside is clean.

Yes, I would brush the suede. I like to use a nail brush.I am about to dunk my first Berkeley bag. The bag is in OK condition, no major damage, so I was planning just to dunk and condition the leather side as usual. Is there anything special I need to do about suede? Some sort of brushing?
Thanks.
