Ladies, I need your expert advice on how to "better" this bag. The light color with the darker trim scares me a little. I do not know if when I give it a bath, the darker will run?
Also if you look closer on the flap there is a "line" that could be like a mark left by a water stain? I am not sure, I only have done easy rehabs on dark bags.
I will appreciate very much any input. TIAIMG_2610.jpeg

I have washed a similarly colored spectator city bag and it didn't run. The white looks terrible when wet. But I would definitely dunk that one to see if I could remove that water stain you can see.

Hi! I do think the renovatrice creme would be great, the only thing is trying to get the right color, white is really white, but they have an off white and eggshell and you can mix the Creme for a custom color. It's expensive, $14 a tube but your tube will last! A little goes a long way. It's like a rubbery resin based putty/dye. It dosent really flake off like an acrylic paint would, and it let's the leather breath. Lots of colors to not just white. Now will the bag be in store perfect...no...but it will look tons better.

Hi again valv54, thank you for the reply. I took the plunge and ordered off-white and eggshell. How did you apply them? Did you also mix with a conditioner like Blackrocks? Thanks again!

So, I received the bag I posted about a couple pages ago and, it is truly a made for the outlet style (I was told back then that the Ali outlet bags were just the ones that didn’t make the grade for the in store sales but that clearly isn’t the case, it does not have some of the hardware that my store bought Ali has and the creed and strap are different).

That being said, it is still the same beautiful style and came in surprisingly great condition for an eleven year old bag so a steal at $25 dollars. The brass was a mess but I have cleaned that with steel wool and cleaner. (Thanks redwood!)

I cleaned the lining and wiped the bag down with soapy water. The leather really doesn’t need much more than edge kot, and a treatment because it is a little dry. I have leather honey and a product that is similar to Blackrocks. Which do you think would be the best choice? The bag doesn’t feel very condusive to absorbing anything if that makes sense.

Thanks for the help!

Nice bag, great price!

You mentioned that the bag doesn't seem to want to absorb anything. When you wiped the bag down with soapy water, how did you remove the soap? I'm asking because it's possible that soap residue would prevent conditioners from being absorbed. (Another product that would do that would be shoe polish. Let's hope it isn't that!)

I would use plain water or water/vinegar to remove any remaining soap residue. I would use a light coat of Blackrock on it after it was thoroughly dry.

Thank you! And thanks for replying.

I used a very small amount of soap and wiped the bag after a few times with a wet cloth to remove the residue. None of the water absorbed into the leather, just sat on top. I don’t think any shoe polish has been used - I don’t see any sign of it and with the stitching colour I would think that there would be some sign. I’ll try water and vinegar and then the conditioner and see. Thanks!

That's an Ali, BTW. I have one from the 65th Anniversary collection with the striped silk lining. It is a great style and I love the super-sized turnlock. That particular tranche of outlet bags (I've seen and sold a few) seem very well made and hold up well; sometimes the lining fabrics are less than luxurious, however.

Oh that’s great to know BB! Thank you. I have one in Natural brown with the striped lining and it is a tank. I was a little disappointed this one seemed less substantial. But holds up well and lighter are a great combo!

For the piping I put it on straight from the tube with my fingers, try to just put it on very thin, a little goes along way, if you want to brighten up the bag, you can mix a little with conditioner, like lexol or leather cpr, and apply it to the whole bag.

Found this Devon bag in a thrift shop. It's not in too bad condition, except for the turn lock. I thought I saw somewhere on this forum, that Coach will send a free turn lock and a link. I could not find it, so if it's not too much trouble, could someone post it again? Thank you.

THE TURNLOCK CLOSURE ON MY HANDBAG NEEDS REPLACING. IS THAT SOMETHING I CAN DO MYSELF?

In many cases we can send you a new turnlock with instructions for replacement.
