Very interesting. It's so subjective and there are so many factors that affect the perception. And so many factors that affect each individual bag's color!

Here's my in-home, natural lighting comparison of my idea of Putty (Dinky) and Tabac (Shoulder Purse). Both have NYC creeds with xxx-xxxx serial # format:

I always thought this bag was a shade off for BT, although I have generally referred to it as a Brit. It is an NYC bag and it was purchased a few years ago. After looking at your bags and a few Musette listings described as Tabac, I am now thinking this is Tabac! I think there may have been a limited offering once upon a time in a color described as Stone, which may be what I was thinking of as Putty! So I will do a little more digging, to be continued . . .
And yes, I will condition this bag already !

I think after conditioning, that might be mahogany.

It’s been deep conditioned already. It gets regular use and for some reason, recently several of my bags are getting scratched by my nails, and this bag is over due anyway for a surface conditioning.
I have a few mahogany/ brown bags and this City does not strike me as mahagony.

Hmm yes I think this could be tabac too. I was also surprised to recently learn tabac is darker than BT. I think I have a few tabacs.

What is the color called in vintage Coach that is from 1977 or so, that is a shade of mustard, like a tan with a mustardy edge? I am cataloging my bags and I can't remember what to call it. I have a skinny kisslock and a stewardess in this color.

Ok I’ve arrived in Portland and have my sister’s Coach briefcase ready to be rehabbed. Can anyone suggest a good method of working on all the scratches and roughed up leather as a first step? Thanks!

The first step is always a dunk. The water soaks into the leather and plumps it up. After it is partially dry, you can start conditioning. Make sure you have good conditioners on hand before you start the process.
