Wow, this poor "old beat up" bag has been through hell!
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Old-Beat-Up-Authentic-Tuquoise-Coach-Bag/153202753682?hash=item23ab988092
It could be cleaned up...sort of. The inside is clean. You have to wonder how it got so dirty.
It could definitely be made to look much better, and if if goes super cheap it might be worth the effort; but those handles would be difficult to clean and I'm not sure that all of the dirty areas are just dirt. It could be that the color has worn off on the corners and in some of other areas - or that the dirt is so ingrained that it cannot be removed without damage - and that would be a difficult color to match if you wanted to cover up some bad spots. And the interior may not be as clean as it looks because the creed patch is filthy!
Also, those Thompson bags came with a unique and distinctive brass Coach script, open ring hangtag and a matching whipstitch hangtag and they would be very hard to replace. What a shame, it was once a gorgeous bag!
Here's a photo from ebay of the hangtags that came on the Legacy Thompson Satchel 11373, very unique and distinctive.

Hi all! I haven't been keeping up with the current posts, but I have been reading a ton of older ones. I have been doing some rehabbing, lots and lots of conditioning, trying a bazillion different products to achieve intended results, and have since sworn off every all patent leather bag I've come across. They look pretty and shiny in the pictures, but those scuffs that don't photograph are the devilI have a promising update to post on my pink legacy that had the verdigris. I've literally been working on her for weeks. Is that normal? Granted, I work so as much as I'd love to spend all day bringing back these beauties to their former glory, I pretty much can only work on them 2-4 days a week depending on my work schedule. I'm new and learning, but jeez, how long does it take on average for you to fix a level should-have-gone-in-the-trash bag? Here's here update-it's her before and as of yesterday (she just got Obenauf'd):

My lighting is always junk, I apologize. I work nights, so I'm only typically doing photos in the wee hours of the morning, since I sleep during the day.
I've dunked a few other bags, but I've realized I'm really terrible about taking before pictures. I just get so excited to get started that midway through, I remember "oh yeah, I'm not going to get to see a before now."I also have a million questions I forget to write down, so then I don't remember them. Here's one I kept forgetting though:
-For asking Coach for replacement tags, is there a maximum they will do at one time? I read a post from a long time ago you have to take them into the store, is that still true? I have no idea why people would purposefully remove them. To sell them for $5 online? So dumb. Anyway, I have a few that need replacement tags. And I know I read they don't always have them, so it's not always possible.
-Do they also sell replacement straps? I have this cutie patootie pink diaper bag that I put through the washing machine after cleaning out what I *pray* was melted chocolateBut it's missing the strap I didn't realize it should've come with. I think it's going to work out really nicely for me as a work bag because of all the inside pockets.
Last but not least, I sat down today to really inspect this girl's issues, and I'm confuzzled. I searched and searched the thread, but I didn't see any cleaning ideas for an Ashley piecework bag. There's such mixed medias in it. The suede is pretty bad, the patent leather is good (nice for a change) and the fabric needs to be spruced up. I read some things about washing suede and saw a tutorial on youtube, but I'm hesitant because I don't want to mess it up more. I have a light blue suede wristlet I accidentally touched with damp fingers after brushing half of it, and the marks are STILL there. I haven't been back to face it yet. Really. What was I even thinking?! Here's her photos, what do you think? Is this a washing machine situation? Or go over each part individually with whatever will work to clean it? The suede brush for the suede, toothbrush and dawn for the fabric, and light conditioner for the patent?

P.S. I posted that video about the Biz I was going to try, and you know what? It's been working great! I spilled something in one of my Poppy's and I didn't find it until I was switching purses, and the Biz took it right out. I can post a before and after with a really dingy and dirty bag I did with Biz, but meh. My lighting just stinks, so I feel like I can't really capture how dusty and gross it was. It didn't smell, but it smells great after the Biz (I diluted it majorly of course)
...For the piecework bag, I would probably give it a bath and after it dries I would carefully moisturize the leather areas, gently brush the suede areas, and use lemon pledge on the patent leather areas...

There is a limit on hangtags. I believe it is 3 a year. If you take your bag to a store, preferably an outlet that isn't too busy, they can pull out a box of hangtags and find some that match your bags, often let you take your pick. If you call Coach, they will likely send you a metal one to match the hardware.Hi all! I haven't been keeping up with the current posts, but I have been reading a ton of older ones. Are we talking about your Dooney double pocket backpack? The trim on that is British Tan harness leather, not untreated vachetta. You can use Blackrock on the trim; I use it (sparingly) on all my AWL Dooneys.
There's a good article on caring for vintage AWL Dooneys here:
https://vintagedooneybourke.wordpre...ey-bourke-all-weather-leather-care-questions/
Scroll down and you will see mention of a product, "Dooney & Bourke Harness Leather Polish," once sold by Dooney & Bourke for use on the British Tan trim. The product literature pictured says it was made with beeswax, which is also probably one of the main ingredients in Blackrock.
Thank you! That one is in really good condition! The Legacy bag looks beautiful, your hard work definitely paid off!
I just happened to see this Poppy replacement strap this morning...thought maybe it would work for you:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/COACH-POPPY-REPLACEMENT-CROSSBODY-STRAP-STORYPATCH-GRAFFITI-GOLD-42-LONG/232959075508
The pink legacy bag looks great, hard to believe that it is the same bag, nice job!
Stray marks may not come off patent leather; I've had best luck giving the bag a bath and working on the area with soap with my fingers while it is still in the bath. Polish the patent with lemon pledge when it is dry.
For the piecework bag, I would probably give it a bath and after it dries I would carefully moisturize the leather areas, gently brush the suede areas, and use lemon pledge on the patent leather areas.
Coach sells novelty straps and metal chain straps, but not canvas replacement straps for a diaper bag. Your best bet is to look for a replacement strap on an online auction site, or try to find a "donor bag" cheap that is so beat up you don't want to rehab it, but you can re-purpose parts of it for another bag. Below are links some possible straps for a pink baby bag on ebay. I usually try to find something close to the original strap and also match the hardware on the bag. Some of the Poppy bags had canvas straps so you might find a good donor bag among them.
I have heard in the past the coach will limit the number of replacement hangtags (3?) during a specific time period but I don't know if that is true. You can also take the bag to the Coach boutique shop or outlet and ask if they can give you a suitable hangtag, if they have extras.
If you bought the bag online, don't mention that because the SAs hate ebay!

View attachment 4218034 View attachment 4218035 So glad I took the chance on this one. I wasn’t sure the dent could be remedied. It improved a lot after a dunk and a good massage on the opposite side. It still left a faint sign but it really is not visible unless you know where to look.
